PSALM 93
Jesus The One That Stills The Storm
There’s no title to this, we have no idea who wrote it. Many wants to put these five verses in with Psalm 92, others wants to put it as the introduction to Psalm 94. But whether it’s the end of Psalm 92 or the beginning of Psalm 94 or whether it needs to stand along it’s a tremendous passage of scripture. It is probably one of the most frequent noted portions of scripture or thoughts in scripture is put here in this Psalm and that is the note of the destruction of the wicked and of the evil. It’s something that we need to understand that this is a Psalm of praise as the children of Israel would be walking up to Jerusalem. Now you can’t go to Jerusalem without going up because it sets up on top of the mountain. It’s got three mountaintops that it’s built upon. And three different valleys that run around beside it. So you can’t go to Jerusalem without going up hill. And as they are walking up to Jerusalem this would be one of the Psalms that they would be singing. This is one of the Psalms that they would be lifting up before the Lord. So let’s take a look at this Psalm and just so you can get a handle on it I’d like to entitle this ‘Jesus The One That Stills The Storm.’ That’s my title now, that’s the title I put on it, I’m not getting that title out of the Bible. That’s just a title I’ve put on it for clarification.
The Bible says in verse 1, “The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved. Thy throne is establish-ed of old: thou art from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. Thy testimonies are very sure; holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.” It starts off by saying “The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength.” The first thing that I want you to see is that the time belongs to the Lord. Now God is timeless. If you remember back in the book of Exodus when Moses was talking with God and God tells him to go to the children of Israel and Moses says ‘who shall I say sent me?’ He said ‘say that I AM.’ Why did he say I AM? Because everything is present with God: there’s no past, there’s no future with God. Everything is present with God. The Bible says that a day to the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years but a day, the time is held by God himself. God is sover-eign; God knows everything there is to know. Here we find “The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself.” God has given himself the power and the au-thority. There is none greater than God. There is no other God. Did you ever think about the fact that God has never had a second thought that was better than the first? God has never had to redo something because it did not work the first time that he planned. God is one that’s sitting on the throne with all power, with all authority and God has this world and everything in it under his control. Everything is right on time, it’s right up to date, it’s exactly the way God has had it planned from the foundation of the world. You see whenever God formed the world, when he sit the foundation of the earth there was no man there but God himself, that’s what he was talking to Job about over in Job 39, 40, and 41. He said ‘was you there whenever I measured out the earth, when I laid the foundation was you there?’ No Job wasn’t anywhere to be found. My friend I want you to know that time belongs to God: your time. Listen to what Paul said, he said that it’s once appointed unto men to die and after this the judgment. There’s a time coming that you and I are going to step out of this world and step into eternity. You’re not going to go one second beyond. We have in the Bible only man that God had set a date and then God gave him an additional fifteen years. But every other person in the Bible whenever the time is come for God to call them into his presence, whenever God says you’ve got this day and this day only and when that day comes that person is gone. When your day comes you’re gone. Time belongs to the Lord. He’s the one that controls every bit of it. He’s the sovereign God. He has everything under his control.
Not only that in verse 1 is says, “wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.” This world as you and I know it is not going to be moved until God says ‘all right, it’s over, it’s time for this stuff to stop.’ It’s going to go on, the wickedness of man is going to go, the tears and dying, it’s going to go right on until God says ‘enough is enough.’ When God says it’s over, time has come to an end. I want you to know it’s going to stop. God is totally sovereign; God has total power.
I want you also to notice that the tempest is hastened by him, or the storm is directed by him. Look at verse 2, it says, “Thy throne is established of old; thou art from everlasting.” The throne of God is established and Israel is God’s chosen, Isaiah 45:4 God says I will call mine elect by name, mine elect is Israel. So you don’t have to wonder is God done with Israel, no God’s not done with Israel, he’s not going to be done with Israel. Think about it this way, the church is the bride of Christ; Israel is the bride of God. Look there in Ezekiel how God came and threw his skirt over Israel when she was laying in the field and God has brought her up and God has nourished her. God chose Israel as his own and he told Abraham ‘I will give you the land; every place the sole of your foot trods will be yours, all the way back to Genesis 12. And we find that Abraham walked through the land of Israel, that’s Israel land. God has given it to them. When Israel gets the land in their hand, when they get the land that they possess as their own, Israel will then not have to worry about anybody or anything. They would take on the world if God told them to. But God is the one that has established Israel.
Then he goes on to say in verse 3, “The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.” “The floods have lifted up” this is the cry of the people, the floods of many waves. You know the Bible talks in Revelation ‘the voice of God is like waves of water and many voices in heaven praising God. Here you see the nations of the world crying out against Israel, crying out against the establishment of God’s power and God’s seat of power which is in Jerusalem. That’s the reason the children of Israel today will not share Jerusalem with the Palestinians. The land of Israel belongs to Israel. It is God’s chosen people and God has established that land. Israel is not occupying land, Israel is taking the land that God has given to them and it’s their land. So we now have the awesome power of all the nations rising up against Israel and that’s what you’re seeing today. The Arab world and many of the other nations in the world crying out against Israel and they’re saying that’s why September 11 happened was because of Americas support for Israel. Well where is the United States found in scripture. Where do you find us in end times? The only place you find the United States of America in the Bible is right in the middle of Jerusalem, JerUSAlem. And America is here to support Israel. The moment we stop supporting Israel you can rest assured that America is going to fold. We’re here by God Almighty, by God’s authority and God and God alone has the authority to squall all the nations that come after Israel. The awesome power of the nations that’s coming after Israel is under the authority of God Almighty. The actual nation that’s coming against Israel is going to be forted by the power of God Almighty.
He says, “The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.” These are the people that are coming against Israel and I want you to know that the time is going to come when God says ‘enough.’ Enough, no more is going to come against Israel. So we find the time is in his and we find the tempest is also in his hand. But I want you to think of something else in verse 4. It says “The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.” God is mightier than all the powers of the world. Back in verse 1 it says that the earth is established, the world is established it cannot be moved. God has established this world; he’s set the foundation of it. God had the authority; God had the power, God’s in control. God is still the ruler; he is still the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is still the one that’s ruling and reigning in everything. So the Lord on high is mightier than all the noise of the waves. All the people that’s crying out against Israel, those that’s crying out against the United States, I want you to know that God Almighty is still on the throne. God Almighty is still there. He’s still in authority for every single thing that’s happening and that’s going to happen. God allows it; he is mightier than all those nations and all those waves that come. Why?
Look at verse 5, “Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.” I want you to see that the temple is God’s home. The temple established in Israel, set in Jerusalem, that is the home of God. First of all I want you to know that you can trust his word. He says,“Thy testimonies are very sure.” You can trust the word of God. The word of God is true. It doesn’t matter what man says, doesn’t matter what man thinks the word of God is true. You can trust the word. The Bible says Mark 13:31 “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” The word of God is going to stand when the world is on fire. We have some folks today that don’t want to go along with the word of God. They don’t want to let the Bible be true and every man a liar. They want to take a passage of scripture and interpret it the way they want to instead of letting the Bible speak and say what it wants to say. I want you to know the Bible says, “Thy testi-monies are very sure.” Not sure, very sure. You can rest assured that every single solitary thing that God says from Genesis 1:1 to Revelations 22:21 is some day, if it hasn’t already come to pass, some day will come to pass. So I want you to notice that his testimony, his word is true, you can trust his word. The law of God is there. But also want you to see that the temple of the Lord is there. He says “holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.” The holiness becomes God’s temple or thine house. You remember whenever the tabernacle was made there in the wilderness. God told Moses how to make, they overlaid it with gold, they made a beautiful thing. Whenever they sit the tabernacle up the Spirit of God descended and sat upon the tabernacle. Man could not go in there because the holiness and the purity of God. Listen the holiness of God is so great and so glorious that man cannot look on it in his physical state.
