Print out ALL paper work.Your paper work, including both signatures and dates, is to be turned in at Vendor’s Night on May 6, 2016 at the first table BEFORE you are allowed to enter. Your signed paper work is your ticket to attend and order items at Vendor’s Night. If you forget to bring it with you, you will need to go back and get it or you WILL NOT be allowed to attend Vendor’s Night; and therefore, youwill be removed from the Chato Dance Team.
Make sure you mark all of your Chato Dates on your calendars for your parents NOW. Reminder dates are usually not handed out.
Please realize Both Chato and Parent/Guardian are required to be in attendance; in addition, if you and your parent/guardian miss this Vendor’s Night on May 6, 2016, your child will no longer be a Chato.
Vendor’s Night

This is a MANDATORY PARENT & CHATO MEETING. Failure to meet this requirement will remove you from the Chato Dance Team!!
Vendor’s Night is a MANDATORY EVENT for BOTH the parent/guardian and Chato. It will be held in the Chato Dance Studio from 3:00-7:00pm on May 6th. It is a come and go thing. Please do not wait until 6:30 to come - you will not make it through all vendors. There will also be a MANDATORY TEAM MEMBER/PARENT/GUARDIAN MEETING directly following Vendor’s Night at 7:07pm.
FAILURE TO MEET THE MANDATORY VENDOR’S NIGHT WILL REMOVE YOUR CHATO FROM THE TEAM!
Vendor’s Night enables each team member/parentto place and pay for practice wear and equipment for the upcoming Chato year. All parents/guardians will be able to place orders, sizesand payments directly to each vendor. Each member is expected to have all items purchased and paid for by the beginning of SUMMER CAMP IN AUGUST.
Team Member Physicals
FAILURE TO HAVE A PHYSICAL BY AUGUST 3rdWILL BENCH THE TEAM MEMBER FROM REHEARSASL, PRACTICES, CAMPS, AND PERFORMANCES FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR.
“CR” and Chato Dance Team members will be expected to have an updated physical. Physicals may be taken with the LPHS athletic department during the month of May if available. All other physicals must be taken and returned to the Director by the beginning of the August Chato camp week if you are a team member or the 2nd week of school if you are a “CR”.
MANDATORY SUMMER CAMPS AND REHEARSALS
Chato Dance Team membersare REQUIRED to attend CHATO LINE CAMP IN MAY/JUNE, SUMMER CAMP AND SUMMER REHEARSAL IN AUGUST. FAILURE TO MEET ANY OF THE ABOVE WILL REMOVE A STUDENT FROM THE CHATO DANCE TEAM.
In addition, squad practices will be held all summer. Dates and times will be designated by thesquad officers. Squad practices enhances individual officer growth by becoming familiar of her squad’s work ethics and individually needs. Squad practices also allow ALL team member to become stronger before the Chato Dance Team meets for Summer Camp/Rehearsals in August. Squad practices also help to unify the team and promote camaraderie. Each member is expected to meet their squad officer during the summer months at least 4 hours a week.
Personal work is NEVER excused; however, FOR SUMMER SQUAD PRACTICE ONLY, family vacation or church camp will be excused. All other rehearsals and practice times will only be excused by personal illness, doctor’s appt. or death in the family. All absences need to be covered by a doctor’s or parent note upon return. (see Chato Golden Rules & Constitution)
Summer Camp/Rehearsal will be held during the month of May- after school, the first couple of weeks of June, and the entire month of August. The Chato June camp will be held off campus. The entire month of August camp will be held in the Chato Dance Studio. A designatedplace with times and practice attire will be on the web site or handed out regarding specifics of the camps. Both camps are MANDATORY to be a performing Chato Member.
Vacations are not excused for the month of May/June/August. Automatic removal from the Dance Team will occur if a member fails to meet the required camps during the month of JUNE AND AUGUST.

EACH CHATO DANCE TEAM MEMBER WILL AUDITION EVERY ROUTINE IN FRONT OF THE DIRECTOR. THE DIRECTOR HAS THE FINAL SAY SO IN WHO PERFORMS. Once a student makes the May auditions it does not mean that they will pass a dancing performance/routine. THE DIRECTOR IS JUST LIKE A COACH AND WILL ONLY PUT THE BEST PLAYERS ON THE FIELD, STAGE, CONTEST FLOOR, ETC…
Annual Auditions
THERE WILL BE AN ANNUAL AUDITION/SEMESTER EXAM FOR THE CHATO DANCE TEAM . Please prepare accordingly!
A STUDENT HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO AUDITION FOR THE CHATO DANCE TEAM EVERY YEAR; HOWEVER, THERE ARE NO GUARANTEED POSITIONS HELD FOR A RETURNING MEMBER AUDITIONING.
In other words:A RETURNING MEMBER WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY MAKE THE DANCE TEAM FOR THE UPCOMING YEARS. ALL AUDITIONING STUDENTS MUST PREPARE ACCORDING TO THE RULES. AUDTIONS ARE FOR ONE YEAR ONLY.

Precision Chato Dance Team
Standards of Conduct
The Chato Dance Team is a source of great pride to the La PorteIndependentSchool District. Because of their high level of visibility, members of this organization shall exhibit conduct and discipline above that expected of other students in the school district. Participation in the team shall be at the discretion of the team director. The following standards have been approved by the school district administration and have been formulated as an aid to students, parents, and teachers in comprehending the conduct expected of team members.
- Loss of membership from the team may occur immediately after a disciplinary hearing with the director and principal for the following reasons:
- Unexcused absence from a required performance or rehearsal
- Accumulation of 20 demerits
- Being sent to SAC, DeWalt, and Saturday extended Detention or Suspension from school.
- For being involved in any of the following activities while at school or participating in any school-related activities:
- Smoking or possession of tobacco, lighter or matches
- Possession of weapons
- Fighting and/or assault
- Gambling
- Forgery
- Obscene language or gestures
- Possession of fireworks
- Hazing
- Cheating and/or Lying
- Insubordination, verbal or violent
- Public lewdness
- Vandalism (including abuse and/or misuse of equipment and/or uniforms)
- Verbal abuse
- Terrorist threat
- Possession of alcohol, or the evidence of consumption of alcohol, or other violation of the school district drug and alcohol abuse policy
- Class disruption (reference C above)
- Truancy
- Theft
ReRemoval from the precision dance team may occur on the first offense, and the student will be scheduled out of the dance team class in a timely manner.
(*First SAC and/or Extended Detention assignment for LPISD Dress Code Violation/Tardy will not result in removal from the team; however, first SAC and/or Extended Detention assignment for disciplinary violations may result in removal from the team.)
- Reinstatement to the Chato Dance Team
TheStudent seeking reinstatement must make a written request to the director and schedule a conference with both the Principal and the director prior to the auditions to clarify their intentions; in addition, if possible enroll into one sem semester of dance training to prove them self. If approved, the student must re-audition for membership. They mu must also be present during summer practice, summer camp and summer rehearsals of the team. They will not be I be issued a uniform, or perform with the group until such time as the director decides to reinstate them. The
Student will meet all requirements of practice, but will not be able to take part in any social event of the group unti until the reinstated is completed. REINSTATEMENT IS AT THE DIRECTOR’S DISCRETION.
- There will be an evaluation conducted annually for all members of the team.

Right & Left Splits and Double Turns
Each performing Chato Dance Team Member will be REQUIRED to do both right and left splits and double turns before they audition for any performance; moreover, to do both with proper dance techniques.
Failure to be able to complete these specific dance skills,with the required proper technique,will result in a NON-PERFORMANCE STATUS for the Chato Dance Team member.
Both of these requirements will be enforced at all Chato Auditions. This includes in front of outside judges and/or in front of the Director(s) for the Chato year. In addition, both requirements will help to maintain the performance level needed for successful dance technique, skills, flexibility, extension levels and SAFETY/HEALTH. {Please understand that the member must also meet the other necessary requirements needed at every audition to be a performing member – levels, dynamics, showmanship, technique, memory, control, etc…}

Remember, that being placed on the Chato Dance Team DOES NOT guarantee a performing position. The judges are made aware of the requirements for team performance; moreover, the judges may choose individuals in hopes that he/she will continue to work hard to meet all requirements and skills necessary to perform. It is entirely up to the individual Chato to accomplish and maintain their “homework” requirements necessary for performance/auditions.

Chato Profit/User Fee
All Chato Dance Team members must meet the required "profit"
amount, assigned annually by the Director(s), according to the
upcoming year's need. All individual Chato accounts, "profit" amount, must be paid in full before any monies can be applied towards other items. Any Chato not meeting this required amount will be entered on the delinquent list; and as a result, will not be able to attend any Chato social functions until this amount is cleared. Finally, each member must meet this "profit" amount yearly. There are no exceptions regarding payment of this money due to removal from the squad or a squad member electing to quit.
Chato "profit" money assist in maintenance of all Chato uniforms,
equipment, supplies, systems and props not paid for under school
budget.

Prior to the semester exam, a candidate needs to achieve an overall grade point average of 2.3, calculated from the six weeks grades of all reporting periods completed in the current school year. Precision dance training class grades will count in the computation.
C.Attendance
A prospective member needs to have a good attendance record- as per LPISD attendance Policy prior to the semester exam (effective from the first day of school in the fall).
D. Disciplinary Record
Because self-discipline is an important criterion for membership, a prospective member must have an excellent disciplinary record. Students may not be allowed to audition whose names have appeared on the Semester Disciplinary List, who have been assigned to the school district DeWalt, SAC or its equivalent, or who have been suspended from school.
E.Merits
A Prospective member needs to prove their spirit and enthusiasm by earning merits before audition-the number to be set by the director.
F.Annual Evaluation
There will be an evaluation conducted annually for all members of the Chato Dance Team.
