Questions & Answers:

How does my daughter play on a Select team? On the registration form, the parent-guardian would check “yes” for the question “select eligible”. What this means is the parent & player agree to pay the required fee and make the required commitment. A player then has to be “chosen” by the evaluators during the try out process based on skill. The 2nd & final part of team selection is commitment and attitude.

How do try outs work with the “new” Select program?Very similarto how try outs have worked in the past. In the past the club would have for example, an A team, B team and C team. (A = black – B = green – C = white) Just change the “black” team to the “select” team and you have it figured out. Once the evaluators score all of the players the highest scored 9 who checked “yes”select eligible on the registration form, are fully committed to volleyball and have a good attitude will be chosen for the team.

What age groups is CSVB having select teams?CSVB will consider select teams for all age groups but we are focusing on U13 and U14. This is for 2 reasons, one we want to gauge the interest of the entire club and two these are the two largest age groups. However, if we don’t have 9 committed – select skilled players interested in an age group, we will not have a select team. If a player wants to play select team and is not chosen, they will be competing for a spot on a club team. Also, if CSVB doesn’t have a U13 select team we will still have a U13 club team.

Ultimately, we felt the “Select” program was essential as there are families that want more volleyball, a higher level of volleyball whoare fully committed to volleyball. We have lost players in the past to other clubs because we haven’t offered this program. Moving forward we are now offering multiple options with different commitment and financial levels to reach all of our families. Select teams are a “choice” if you aren’t interested, can’t make the financial or attendance commitment, just check “no” for the select eligible question on the registration form.
