Universal Topper – LED Sequencing Instructions

This instruction details the process for selection of the LED lighting sequences provided by the Universal Topper gaming sign. See last section for demo instructions.

1)The Uni-Topper is pre-programmed to provide 15 alternate LED light operating sequences.

2)These sequences are selectable by the customer via two push button switches located on the LED PCB Driver unit which is mounted in the bottom front base and accessible via a single screw on the front door of the unit. The unit is electronically safe, is double insulated, and powered only by Low VoltageDC (12 volt or 24volt).

3)The switches are “Select” and “Stop” – Left and Right – respectively looking at the front of the unit.

4)If no specific selection is made the LED light array will cycle through all 15 LED lighting sequences in order 1 to 15 and repeat. Each lighting sequence will hold and run for approximately 5 seconds then automatically switch in cyclic rotation to the next lighting sequence which will run for 5 seconds.

5)To make a specific selection press the “Select” button to select the desired sequence mode and then the“Stop” button to lock the selected mode into operation.

To view the available LED Lighting sequencing modes;

6)Simply allow the unit to run in open mode – open mode operation runs either prior to selection of a specific mode or on release of any previously selected modes (see following text). This will demonstrate all 15 available LED lighting sequences for approximately 5 second intervals in each mode.

7)Push the “SELECT” switch and note from the 12.30 O’clock position that the No. 1 LED illuminates as a separate indication that sequence No. 1 is selected. A further operation of the SELECT push button switch will rotate the lighting sequence select indicator to the No. 2 LED position in a clockwise direction from the original 12.30 O’clock position. This now indicates number 2 LED lighting sequence is selected. All 15 LED lighting sequences are indicated in clockwise rotation from 12.30 O’clock position through6.30 O’clock position by successive operation of the “SELECT” switch. Each successive lighting sequence will be demonstrated for approximately 5 seconds. This process will continuedisplaying LED operating modes 1 to 15 repeatedly.

8)To retain (lock) any of the selections the “STOP” button must also be pressed during the 5seconddemonstration period - otherwise the normal cycling through LED operatingmodes 1 – 15 will continue.

Example to select and retain a desired LED lighting sequencefor LED operating sequence No 2;

9)First press the “SELECT” switch to illuminate LED sequence indicator No. 2. This selection process may start from a previously held selection or may start from position 1.

10)View the selected LED operating mode and if this is the desired operating mode then press the “STOP” button during the 5 second demonstration period and the required sequence will be held (locked). When an operating mode is selected and held by the “STOP” button this selection will be held through power outages and returned to operation on resumption of power.

11)To release a previously held LED operating sequence – simply press the “STOP” switch. This will release the LED driver unit to cyclic operation and the LED lighting sequence will be returned to running 1 – 15 sequences in rotational order for 5 second intervals between successive sequences.

12)To expedite selection of an LEDsequence, press the “SELECT” button repeatedly in rapid succession to move to the required selection, i.e. continually press 6 actuations to move to No. 6 selection in fast time. When the required selection is running in demonstration mode simply press the “STOP” button and the desired operating mode will be retained.

Note: When using the Demo Universal Topper with optional CCFL Dimmer

The single external push button will allow you to select and retain a desired LED lighting sequence. After applying power the LEDs will cycle through all 15 LED lighting sequences in order 1 to 15 and repeat. To lock and retain a desired sequencesimply press the push button. To release the operating sequence, simply press the push button again thus returning the LED display to its sequencing mode.

The dimmer knob will control the intensity of the CCFL sign lamp. Turning the knob

clockwise will increase itsintensity. Turning the knob counterclockwise will decrease the intensity to approximately half brightness. When the knob is turned fully counterclockwise the Dimmer is placed into a demo sequence mode showing flashing and fading techniques of the CCFL lamp.

Electrical specifications

The Uni-Topper is available in two voltages:

12VDC @ 950mA max.

24VDC @ 465mA max.

Power is supplied to the Topper via the red (+) and black (-) wires terminated with a .250” fast-on connector. Crimp the two “T-Taps” (supplied) to the 12 or 24 VDC wires in your application and then connect the fast-ons accordingly. The “T-Taps” and fast-ons are totally insulated after installation. Warning -Polarity must be observed otherwise permanent damage will occur to the device.

A heavy duty 10 gauge ground wire is supplied with a round terminal lug that will accept up to a # 8 screw. An internal Tower light extension harness is available for those applications where the tower light wires are not long enough to pass through the Topper.

Mounting configuration

The Uni-Topper is available in two mounting configurations supplied using two # M4 or M5 bolts and lock nuts.

The parallel mounting option uses 2 x 4.00mmmounting studs at 32.00mm (1.259”) centers that are parallel to the front face.

The 90 degree mounting option uses 2 x 5.00mm mounting studs at 40.00mm (1.575”) centers that are at 90degrees to the front face.

The access hole for the wires is 22.2mm (.875”) in diameter and is centered between either two mounting studs.
