CALL FOR PAPERS
Theme: “Feminism: Then, Now, and Not Yet”
On Monday, March 4, Wake Forest University will host its second annual student research symposium on gender and sexuality, featuring moderated sessions of scholarly and creative presentations by Wake Forest students. This event will showcase the exciting work that our undergraduates and graduate students are doing on gender-related issues across disciplines. The symposium will take place the day before the Phyllis Trible Lecture Series (March 5-6), which will feature four internationally renowned feminist scholars.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Jan. 31, 2013
One-page typed abstracts should briefly describe the proposed topic and explain how it relates to the field of gender and/or sexuality studies. They should also include the student’s name, contact information, a tentative title, and the name of the professor with whom you are working or have worked (if applicable). Please make sure your contact information is in the proposal itself.
We invite papers on the past, present, and/or future of feminism in relation to: gender and religion, gender and politics/law, gender and the arts, feminist activism, history of feminism, sexuality and visual culture, LGBTQ communities and rights, women and poverty, women and business, and women and science/medicine. Proposals involving poster sessions, creative exhibits, performances, and video clips are also welcome.
Presentations may vary in length depending on format but should not exceed 10 minutes (plus five minutes for discussion). Students from all departments and programs are invited to participate. Please do not send abstracts by email but create your document via the Google Drive tab (on the bar at the top of your G-mail inbox) and “share” it with Dr. Wanda Balzano (Director of Women’s and Gender Studies, ) and Dr. Michelle Voss Roberts (Divinity, ). Please name your document “Feminism Student Symposium, (Your Name).”
