· Every month, TAFB provides groceries for 40,000 families, in addition to food for 500,000 prepared meals and snacks.
· A $1.00 donation enables TAFB to provide food for 5 meals.
· TAFB Food for Kids operates 19 Kids Cafes that serve meals to children in after-school and weekend programs; every week, we provide over 5,000 meals to 1,700 children.
· More than 92,000 children live in extreme poverty in our area. If those children held hands, the line would stretch from Fort Worth to Dallas.
· Through the Choices! Program, TAFB takes nutrition education to hundreds of children in after-school programs.
· The Backpacks for Kids program, in partnership with after school programs and others, provides children at risk of hunger on weekends with a backpack full of kid-friendly food each Friday.
· In 2003, TAFB distributedover 16 million pounds of food, including nearly 4 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.
· Of TAFB’s total revenues, 97% goes to programs to eliminate hunger. Only three percent is applied toward administrative expenses and fundraising.
TAFB distributes food to more than 280 agencies such as church food pantries, senior citizen centers, soup kitchens, emergency shelters and low-income child care centers.
Of the clients served by our agencies:
§ 37 % are children.
§ 14 % are elderly.
§ 54 % of the families have monthly incomes of less than $1,000.
TAFB serves hunger-relief agencies in 13 counties: Tarrant, Bosque, Cooke, Denton, Erath, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker, Somervell and Wise.
