CALLING NOTICE - ROYAL SIGNALS INTER UNIT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT (THE SIGNALS CUP) ALDERSHOT GARRISON 22-23 SEPTEMBER 2015

General

  1. The Royal Signals Inter Unit Hockey Tournament (Signals Cup) for 2015 will take place in Aldershot over the period 22nd-23rd September 2015. 11(RSS) Sig Reg will organise the tournament with the Royal Signals Hockey Club (RSHC) in support. The Tournament will be split into two phases comprising both outdoor and indoor hockey.

2. In addition it is hoped to run an England Hockey (EH) Level 1 umpires course on the 21st Sept 15 subject to approval from EH. This will enable units to identify any individuals wishing to learn the rules of the outdoor game and complete the L1 exam before gaining practical umpiring skills with the teams participating in the tournament. A full compliment of qualified officials will be available to mentor and guide any newly qualified umpires throughout the tournament.

Unit Entry

3.All Units (Regular and Reserve, Major and Minor) are encouraged to enter teams to both phases of the Tournament. Outdoor matches will require a 7a-side team with up to 5 substitutes (12 pers max and one player to be female) while indoor matches will require a 5 a-side team with up to 7 substitutes (12 pers max and one player to be female). Units are further encouraged to enter more than one team if possible. Teams may also have a separate Team Manager and a Team Coach. Units are requested to complete Annex A to this letter by NLT 14th August to allow sufficient time for detailed tournament planning. Units will be required to pay a £25 (per team) entry fee to cover the tournament costs.

Tournament Programme

4.Once entries have been confirmed, a programme of matches and a detailed administrative instruction for both phases of the tournament will be promulgated. Matches should begin by 1000 hrs on both days and be completed by 1700 hrs. Group stage indoor and outdoor matches will be 10 mins each way in length. Semi finals and finals will be fifteen minutes each way. A prize giving will be completed at the close of play on each day. In summary:

Umpires Course

5.Umpires are always in short supply and are an essential part of any successful game of hockey. Units are encouraged to nominate at least one individual to attend the course on Mon 21 Sep 15. Units are also requested to complete Annex B by NLT 14 Aug 15. Individuals will be required to complete and pass an on-line rules test as part of the pre-requisites for this course.There will be a cost (TBC) for the England Hockey Level 1 course however this can normally be claimed back by either the Unit supporting or the individual using their annual Standard Learning Credits.

Travel

6.This letter should be used as your travel authority which should be made by the most economical method and charged to your own Unit UIN.

Accommodation and Feeding

7.Accommodation in the Aldershot area is available on a first come first served basis. Accommodation and messing should be booked through the Central Accommodation Booking Service (CABS) on 01252 354305 or via email . Units who experience any difficulties securing accommodation should contact Brian Mower on 94371 2366 or email .

Trophies

8.There will be separate trophies awarded for the Outdoor and Indoor phases of the tournament. Trophies from the winners of the 2014 tournament should be returned to Mr Brian Mower at Blandford by the 22nd August 15 (11(RSS) Sig Reg Outdoor shield and Signals Cup and 14 Sig Reg (EW) -Indoor shield).

Equipment

9.Team Colours. Units are to indicate on their Annex A return their team colour and are requested to ensure they have a second strip to be used in the event of a colour clash. All shirts must be numbered and players should wear the shirt numbers shown on the Team Sheets.

10.Match Balls. Units are also requested to provide outdoor match balls where they are the first named unit in the tournament programme. All indoor equipment will be provided (sticks and balls).

11.Face Masks. Units are encouraged to purchase face masks for use in defensive short corners, both indoor and outdoor. A small pool will be provided on a first come first served basis.

12.First Aid Equipment. Units are advised to bring their own team first aid equipment. The tournament officials will be equipped to provide immediate first aid to any injured players before assessing any need to call emergency support.

Eligibility

13.Units are to ensure that all players competing meet the eligibility criteria for Unit representation as directed in PD 211. One non R SIGNALS cap badged player will be allowed to participate on the field of play at any time; the remaining players should be cap badged R SIGNALS. Units are to note that teams are to have a minimum of one female player and a female player must be on the field of play atall times.
