Programs

Motor Activities Training Program

MATP is for persons who, due to severity of the disability, cannot compete in the official Special Olympics sports program.

Focuses on training and participation rather competition:

  • There are no rules for competition but the event is based on personal best
  • It allows adapted equipment and for physical assistance

Comprised of seven basic motor activities that are directly related to official Special Olympics sports:

  • Mobility – Gymnastics
  • Dexterity – Athletics/Softball
  • Striking – Softball/Bowling
  • Kicking – Soccer
  • Manual Wheelchair – Athletics
  • Power Wheelchair – Athletics
  • Aquatics – Aquatics

Follows certain philosophies:

  • Non competition, age appropriateness, functionality, community-based instruction, partial participation, and fun.

Partner PE

Partner PE is a success oriented physical education program featuring supervised peer tutors and individualized learning and instruction.

It is taught by a regular physical education teacher and is established as a regular unit of instruction in the master schedule.

Partner PE is designed to meet the unique physical education needs of students with disabilities who cannot meet the TEKS requirements of regular physical education.
