Breakthrough Breast Cancer is looking for a committed Go Pink Intern to join our team during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The fundraising and marketing roleis ideal for a recent graduate or anyone looking to move into fundraising within the charity sector. Our united approach to defeat breast cancer is simple:
- Through finding the causes we will know how to prevent the disease
- Through enabling early detection more women will survive the disease
- Through ensuring precise diagnosis more women will receive timely treatment and care
- Through discovering new and better treatments and improving health services more women will no longer fear the effects of the disease.
Go Pink
Go Pink is Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s largest annual fundraising campaign. In 2011 Go Pink raised over £380,000: more than we’ve ever raised before. We believe, that with your help, we can make 2012’s campaign even more successful.
Our fundraisers Go Pink during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.They Go Pink anyway they like; from selling pink cakes and dying their hair, to organising large gala events or donating a percentage of their businesses’ profits.
By ‘Going Pink’, supporters raise vital funds and awareness, thus strengthening Breakthrough’s local and national profile. Increasing our impact in the media and public consciousness is central to the continued funding and development of our education, campaigning and internationally- lauded research programme.
Your Vital Role
Our interns will market Go Pink through building strong internal and external relationships with our PR team and local media channels. Our interns will engage businesses and other organisations, recruiting them to the campaign ensuring we reach our financial targets. Our interns will enlist local support to get Holborn, our administrative base, to Go Pink.
Personal Development
In return, you will gain invaluable experience working within a fast- paced and dynamic team on the national fundraising stage. You will hone your administrative skills whilst also expanding PR, Social Media and copy-writing capabilities and benefiting from all the training programmes available to our employees.
Skills & Experience Required
Our Go Pink Events intern will have:
- A confident and articulate telephone manner.
- Self- motivated
- The ability to communicate with a variety of different audiences.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accurate record- keeping.
- Clear and concise written work.
- An ability to work to tight deadlines and juggle various projects.
- Workload prioritisation skills.
- IT experience, especially in Microsoft Package and Mail Merges
- Database experience, in Raiser’s Edge database if possible, though full training will be provided.
- Experience with social media and websites.
- An interest in fundraising and/or marketing within the charity sector
- Creative and dynamic.
- Interested in people.
- Friendly and outgoing.
- Highly organised.

- Fundraising advice and support to Go Pink fundraisers and Ambassadors.
Learning Opportunities & Shadowing
Training
We will provide training for our Raiser’s Edge database, used across the charity sector, and Microsoft Office applications, especially Outlook and Excel.
Shadowing
Our Go Pink intern will be able to shadow our team during presentations and speeches at key events and will be invited to attend all Community Team, Fundraising Department and All Staff meetings and briefings. Bi- weekly 121s will be arranged with your mentor and manager to ensure that you are benefitting the most from their work and the support we can offer in order to reach their personal potential.
Opportunities for attending and providing on- the- ground support at other fundraising events across the organisation will also be available such as at sporting events and other active challenges.
Careers Advice
Tailored careers advice will be given from our team, including help with CV and covering letter drafting and interview practice and feedback from our fundraising team to maximise your potential to transfer this experience into a long- term career in the charitable/ events sectors.
Presentation
You will be asked to give a presentation to the Go Pink Team at the end of your placement, demonstrating skills acquired and experience gained as well as offering crucial feedback to your colleagues and outlining your own ideas and innovations for future fundraising opportunities.
