Senior Amateur Ranking system for 2014/ 15 and criteria for selection of Senior IPT teams
- Each year, Gauteng North competes in the South African Senior Amateur Interprovincial Golf Tournament, administered by SAGA, and two GNGU teams are selected every Marchto compete in this event. These teams are an A team consisting of 8 players and a “Super Senior” (over 60 years of age) team consisting of 4 players.
- Tournaments will be allocated points as follows:
- 160 pointsfor the SA Senior Amateur Stroke Play (top 50 players earn points)
- 100 for Provincial Opens where at least 20 of the top 50 players on the SA OOM entered (top 50 players earn points)
- 20 pointsfor Provincial Openswhere less than 20 of the top 50 players on the SA OOM entered (top 20 players earn points)
- 20 points for all GN Trial matches (top 20 players earn points)
- Players will earn points allocated according to a percentage of the points allocated to the tournament (refer above) according to the “percentage breakdown table below”. The points allocated are based on where they finished in the relevant tournament i.e. all players tying for 18th place get 13% of 100 points in a Provincial Open or 13% of 160 points in the SA Senior Amateur Stroke Play.
- The best 5 points earned per event will be taken into account for selection.
- Players need to play a minimum of 5 tournaments (36 holes in the case of Provincial tournaments or 54 holes in the case of the SA Seniors and The Players) or trial games (18 holes).The 1st tournament towards selection will be the KZN Seniors in March 2014 and the last tournament will be the WP Seniors in February 2015.
- The GNGU selection committee, plus the senior’s representative, will comprise the selection committee. The teams will be selected in March each year – approximately 5 weeks prior to the IPT.
- The top 6 players on the GN OOM will gain automatic selection for the A team, with two wild card options.
- The top 3 Super Senior players on the OOM will gain automatic selection for the team with one wild card option.
- A player is also only eligible for team selection if he is handicapped at a Golf Club that is affiliated to the GNGU.
- The selection committee team selections will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- The selection committee also selects a senior team (eight players) to represent GNGU in the annual Northern Provinces Tournament played in March, involving teams of Gauteng North, Central Gauteng, Ekurhuleni, North West, Mpumalanga and Limpopo, and the annual “NEWS” Tournament, played in August and involving teams from Gauteng North, Central Gauteng, Ekurhuleni and North West Province.
