Secretary of State Report
1) Tom Schedler briefed us on our forthcoming independent status from the State. The State will return approximately $9500 to the Museum. This is money that we had already sent the State.
2) Tom stated that this separation is “a good ending to a sad story”.
3) Tom also reported that the Ruston Military Museum is being taken over by the City of Ruston. Tom thinks that all of his museums will remain viable, whether they go independent or stay with the State.
4) Nell asked if Tom thought that our Museum would still be eligible for state Capital Outlay Funding. Tom said that the fact that the Museum is under the Parish would not hurt us but warned that all capital outlays are tough to procure in light on the State’s budget crisis.
5) Judge Stout and Nell thanked Tom for his help to our Museum over the last years.
6) Tom stated that he knows that we will be better off as an independent museum.
7) Our last day as a state museum will be June 30, 2015.
8) Tom will waive the 60 day Notice of Necessity.
9) Elmer Noah then gave us a short briefing on our status with the Ouachita Parish School Board.
There being no other business Jerry Hicks adjourned the meeting and Nell gave the group a tour of the new Chennault Room.
