What will I be doing? (contribution statement)

The post holder willco-ordinate the Equestrian Centre’s events, which includes a range of commercial and curriculum activities offering support and guidance to learners and external customers in a practical environment.

Responsibilities and Key Tasks:

  1. To work as part of the Equestrian Centre Team in the operational responsibilities for the day to day routines.
  2. To liaise with the Team Lead and Yard Manager to ensure that the Centre provides appropriate facilities in order to run events
  3. To assist with the development of the commercial activities and co-ordinate with the Team the portfolio of events.
  4. To assist in the growth of the economic viability and efficiency of the Centre.
  5. To plan and co-ordinate the diary of events to include all arena bookings and clinics.
  6. To ensure the facilities are appropriately prepared for commercial activities.
  7. To plan, organise and run the events.
  8. Promote and market events using a range of tools such as social media and websites.
  9. Handle money and invoice external parties promptly.
  10. To ensure that the Centre operates with due regard to Health and Safety and the college sustainability policy.
  11. Carry out basic maintenance and communicate with the Campus Manager to ensure all resources are in good working order and are safe.
  12. To drive the college vehicles.
  13. To communicate verbally and electronically with the Equine Team on all activities taking place at the Centre.
  14. Attend course and team meetings and ensure all data and information required is available.
  15. To bring with you drive and enthusiasm to motivate and engage students in a practical environment whilst preparing them for the Equine Industry.
  16. To promote links within the Equine Industry and seek to develop good working relationships.
  17. To provide a professional image at all times and set high standards as an individual and for others to follow.
  18. To provide guidance and advice on College open days.
  19. To undertake such staff training as is agreed to be necessary for the development of the role and the individual.
  20. To work with other staff to standards that ensure the overall service complies with the College’s Quality Assurance Systems, the requirements of external accreditation bodies and auditing criteria.
  21. To undertake such other duties and meet the responsibilities as identified in the College’s Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity Policies.
  22. To work with the College’s staff policies and procedures framework and to ensure these are correctly applied.
  23. To carry out other duties as may be assigned by the Principal, which are appropriate to the post and the work of the College.

Person Specification

ESSENTIALS / DESIRABLES
  • An Equine related qualification such as BHS/NVQ
  • A track record of organising events and the knowledge of the rules and regulations for Dressage and Show Jumping
  • Competition experience through personal competing or running of events
  • Track record of working in a busy environment and under pressure
  • Proven effective communication and organisational skills, flexible, ability to meet targets and deadlines
  • Relevant administrative skills including IT skills e.g. word, email, excel
  • Knowledge of appropriate Health and Safety requirements and legislation
  • A commitment to the promotion of equality, diversity and sustainability
  • Full driving licence and personal transport
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team and confident to work on own
  • A commitment to continuous improvement of the facilities
  • Ability to handle money and record income.
  • Demonstrate professionalism to students, external customers and liveries
  • A willingness to develop skills to meet the personal specification requirements

  • A Marketing qualification
  • Practical teaching experience in an appropriate environment
  • Level 2 Literacy & Numeracy
  • Demonstrate regular attendance to CPD within the Equine Industry
  • First Aid at work Certificate
  • Ability to design show jumping courses
  • Maintain arena surfaces
  • Able to deal with horse health emergencies and day to day horse management
  • An Event management qualification
  • Evidence of current CPD within the industry

The Health and Safety responsibilities associated with your post are as set out in the Organisational Arrangements appended to the College’s Health and Safety Policy, and you are required to undertake, at the College’s expense, any training necessary or appropriate for the effective discharge of these responsibilities.
