Homework: pvrblock.pbworks.com

Textbook: The American Nation by Holt.

Materials required for class: All students should bring to class two pens (either blue or black - do not use any other colors for assignments) and a notebook. It is suggested that students should also have an assignment pad or a daily planner in which to record all assignments.

Attendance: Regular attendance in class is essential for the academic success of the student. The school’s late policy will be strictly enforced. Students are responsible for all notes and assignments missed due to absence.

Grading: Marking period grades will be based on a points system (points earned/total points).

Assignments: Various assignments, including essays, will be completed during each marking period, both in class and for homework. Students will be allowed to hand homework assignments in one day late only - late work will receive a reduced grade; no homework assignment will be accepted if it is more than one day late (a grade of 0 will be automatically given). Students are responsible for ALL assignments - absence is not an accepted excuse for not completing an assignment.

Tests: On average, three tests will be administered each marking period. In addition, various quizzes may also be administered. Students who miss a test or a quiz due to absence will be expected to take the test or quiz upon their return to class.

Extra credit: Students will be graded based on the assigned work only - extra credit will not be given.

Plagiarism: Plagiarism of any type will result in an automatic grade of “0”.

Gradebook: The Social Studies Department will post grades for in-class assignments, general homework, quizzes, and tests within a week of their administration or due date. More detailed assignments such as essays, research papers, and major projects will take longer to grade and post.
