LEAGUE TENNIS REGULATIONS

2011

These Twin Cities Metro Area League Tennis Regulations are intended to supplement and be subordinate to the National USTA League Tennis Regulations and the USTA Northern Section League Tennis Regulations, and shall apply to all USTA League Tennis programs in the Twin Cities Metro Area of USTA Northern.

1.00 General

All USTA League Tennis Regulations in 1.00 GENERAL shall apply to all USTA

League Tennis Divisions.

1.04B(6) Area Championship Committee

The Area Championship Committee is composed of the Twin Cities Metro Area League Coordinator, the Chair of the Twin Cities Leagues Committee and additional committee members as appointed by the Chair of the Twin Cities Leagues Committee and staff liaison.

1.04C(1) Official League Registration

The Twin Cities local league permits teams to add players after the commencement of play until the end of the local league season.

1.04C(2) Official Score Reporting and Standings System.

Match results must be reported and confirmed in TennisLink within 48 hours after the conclusion of each team match.

1.04 D(4) Local League Season

USTA Northern and the Twin Cities Leagues Committee offers the following four

seasons of play:

2.00 USTA LEAGUES REGULATIONS.

All National and Section USTA League Tennis Regulations in 1.00 GENERAL and 3.00 GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES with the following exceptions and modifications shall apply to the USTA League Tennis Adult, Senior, Mixed Doubles and Super Senior Divisions.

2.01A Levels of Play

2.01A(1) Minimum Players at Level

Adult teams must have a minimum of four "at-level" players rostered by the registration deadline with the exception of 2.5 and 5.0 teams which require a minimum of three "at level" players. Teams not meeting this minimum will not be eligible to play.

2.01A(2) A mixed doubles pairing with a combined rating of more than 1.0 below the league level will not be allowed to compete at that level.

2.01B Men, Women, and Mixed Doubles

2.01B(1) Mixed Doubles is offered at the 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 10.0 levels.

2.01C Competition Format

2.01C(1) Round Robin

The Twin Cities Metro local league will follow the National standard which states: "Each NTRP level within a local league shall play at least one round robin competition wherein every team plays every other team. Any NTRP level may be divided into flights and each team shall play every other team in its flight. The flight winner may enter a playoff structure to establish a local league championship for that NTRP level. Any NTRP level with only two or three teams is required to play a minimum of three matches."

2.01C(2) Team Match

In the Twin Cities Metro Area, local league, at the 2.5 level and the 5.0 level, each team match shall consist of one (1) individual singles match and two (2) individual doubles matches. For all other approved levels, each team match shall consist of two (2) individual singles matches and three (3) individual doubles matches.

Each Senior, Mixed Doubles and Super Senior team match shall consist of three (3) individual doubles matches.

2.01C(3) Match Scoring

All matches are the best of two tie-break sets, with a set tie-break at 6-all in each set. In the event of split sets, a match tie-break (10 point, win by two) shall be played in lieu of a third set with a two minute set break. No coaching allowed. All local league matches are unofficiated. Players must follow “The Code” as cited in the Friend At Court handbook, as well as all applicable national, section and local league regulations.

One (1) point is awarded for a team match win. At the end of the local league season, the team with the most team points advances to the championships. In the event of a tie at the end of the local league season, the method for breaking ties shall be as set forth in National Regulation 2.03H. The 5th tiebreak method shall be the team with the most games won.

2.01C(5) Team Lineups.

In the local league competition, players failing to arrive on court fifteen (15) minutes after the scheduled time of their individual match are in default. Players who arrive late but within the fifteen (15) minute default period are allowed a five (5) minute warm-up.

2.01C(6)a Defaults (5 Strike/Split Up).

Any Adult team that defaults a total of five (5) individual matches throughout a league season will be required to split up the team the following season with no more than three (3) players remaining together on a team. Any Adult team in the 2.5 or 5.0 divisions that defaults a total of three (3) individual matches throughout a league season will be required to split up the team the following season with no more than three (3) players remaining together on a team.

Any Senior, Mixed Doubles or Super Senior team that defaults a total of three (3) individual matches throughout a league season will be required to split up the team the following season with no more than three (3) players remaining together on a team.

2.03 AREA, SECTION, AND NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

2.03A Eligibility.

2.03A(1) Twin Cities Metro Area flight winners advance to championship competition. When a local league flight winner chooses not to advance, the next team in the standings of the same flight is offered the position and so on. In seven or eight team flights, teams placed in the B half of the flight are not eligible to finish higher than fifth place but are eligible for advancement if all teams in the A half of the flight decline to participate in championship play. The Area Championship Committee will determine the number and selection method of wildcard teams for a specific level.

2.03D Competition Format (Area Championships).

2.03D(1) Round Robin

Round robin competition is used for Area Championships.

2.01A(2) A mixed doubles pairing with a combined rating of more than 1.0 below the league level will not be allowed to compete at that level.
