To express our appreciation, we would like to invite all of the lounge and grill customers and golfers to our free Tom & Jerry Party on Sunday, December 18th from 1PM until 3PM.

The Westfield Board of Directors would like to sincerely thank all of those who donated prizes for the Turkey Raffle held on November 12th.

Golf Professional’s Notes for December Newsletter.

Well, it’s already December. That is hard to believe! Lights are up on houses, Christmas Trees and decorations are everywhere! There is still no snow on the ground and the temps have been in the 40’s and 50’s. I realize that there was still some good golf weather (for some) during the remainder of November, after our closing date of November 6th. Just to add some clarity on the subject, the board of directors set the closing date during the October Board meeting. This date was picked and was not adjusted. The main reason for this was to reduce costs, because we were not bringing in enough revenue with the play we had, and to make sure we were able to get the course buttoned-up for the winter without getting caught by a significant weather event. I realize that this was an unpopular closing for most of the golfers who play deep into the end of the season. Just know that even though we have not had a true freeze of the ground with multiple days in the 20’s for temps, the turfgrass (especially the greens) is no longer growing with any significance. The ground remains soft, because the sun is not strong enough to burn off the surface water in the soil, and every single footprint and golf car tire track (with creatures of habit driving over the same areas each day) damages the turfgrass, because it is not strong enough, or growing enough, to recover. This is also why we are not allowing play on the golf course until we open next spring. If you have any concerns about any of this, I ask you to direct your questions, comments, and concerns to Jeff Normandt, or head Grounds Superintendent.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended, participated, and donated items to the 2016 Westfield “Turkey Raffle”, for the benefit of the Westfield Junior Golf Program! We had a VERY successful night!! We generated roughly $2,700 that night with raffle ticket sales, drawing sales, and individual and corporate donations!! The money we raise goes to help the junior golf program at Westfield GC, and goes to help junior golfers who are in a bit of need, as well as to help purchase training aids, equipment, and to help offset revenues lost by our program taking over the driving range and golf course for those mornings we have the juniors. Junior golf IS the future of the game, as well as Westfield Golf Course! The kids involved are very happy to be involved, quite appreciative, and well behaved. We have had roughly 50 kids in our junior golf program, and by exposing them to golf, we hopefully can get some kids active, outside into the fresh air and away from the video games, and into a healthy activity, where they can socialize, learn golf etiquette, and the life skills which golf can teach! We are always looking for ways to improve the program, as well as helpers and volunteers for the program, either as chaperones on the golf course, or to help me with instruction. At the end of my newsletter notes, I’ll list the donators and donations we received this year for our event. Again…. A BIG THANK YOU to ALL who helped, donated, participated, and attended!!

December also brings to mind Holiday times and Holiday shopping!!! IF you are looking for that special gift for that golfer on your list, please don’t forget your local Westfield Golf Shop!! There is still some time to get a special order completed (but that window is closing), or stop by to pick out something from our remaining inventory. The sale prices when we were closing for the season were 20% OFF pretty much golf shop wide. I will be around the golf shop for a couple of weeks before Christmas to run a sale. (I will be around as long as there is business, but that being said, you may ALWAYS call me on my cell (507-450-7037), or send me an email at , and schedule a time for us to meet so you can do some shopping! I can work around YOUR schedule!! Sales of items in the shop will be 20% OFF remaining in-stock golf balls, 25% OFF in-stock golf clubs and headwear, 30% OFF remaining clubs, 30% OFF remaining in-stock golf bags, and 40% OFF in-stock apparel!! I will have a sign posted on the glass door of the golf shop stating all of this again!

Rates for Season Passes will be available very soon! I will have them posted on our Westfield GC website (www.westfieldgolfclub.com) as well as on the golf shop glass sliding door, as well as towards the bar lounge. The board is currently working on the budget for 2017, and most of the prices/rates for 2017 are ready, but a couple more still need to be buttoned-up! Again, the same as with purchasing merchandise items from the golf shop; I can also be contacted if you are looking for purchasing any Season Passes for 2017!!

Regarding the Rumors.... There are many changes on the horizon! Some of what you have heard is true, some is not. There are many rumors flying around about this, as well. There will be some clarity very soon! Just know that all of us at Westfield GC are doing all we can to make sure that the golf course remains a viable asset to the community!! Priority one is the future of the golf course and keeping the golf course active, in excellent shape, and viable!!

One final note…. IF you are looking to have any club repair (re-gripping, re-shafting, etc.) done on your clubs before next year, or before heading south for the winter, or before that winter getaway trip, please get in touch with me! The turnaround time is one day, if not less, as long as I have the grips in-stock. If I do not have the grips in stock, I can usually get just about anything within a day or two, or I can also put on any grips that you supply yourself.

I would like to thank the Members/Season Pass Holders for another great season! Westfield is a great place! I would also like to again thank my Golf Shop Staff (Judy, Cornell, Tom, Sam, and Alexa) for a job well done this season!! As always, I would also like to thank Jeff Normandt, our Golf Course Superintendent, and his staff, for another job well done with the course being in fabulous shape again this year!!

We look forward to seeing you in 2017, if not before!! Have a great Christmas, New Year, and Holiday Season!!

Your PGA Golf Professional,

Brian J Paulson, PGA
