September 30: Gilda Club’s Teen Essay Contest
Share how cancer has touched your life in your own words, with your personal reflections and original insights. Essays will be judged in 3 categories: Students who are cancer survivors, and middle and then high school students who have a family member or friend who has cancer. Cash prizes up to $500. October 25: 2014 Horatio Alger Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements for this Award: MinimumGPA of 2.0. Involvement in co- and community service activities, critical financial need – other criteria listed on website. Students may apply online at
October 31: 2012 Coca-Cola Scholarship
Coca-Cola will be giving away 250 four year achievement based scholarships. Students must have a 3.0 at the end of their junior year. Students can apply on-line at . Our schools CEEB code is 181-211 if needed.
November 8: Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
If you’ve performed volunteer work over the past year, apply online at State honorees will receive an unrestricted award of $1,000 and an all expense paid trip with a parent to Washington D.C. May 2-5th.
November 20: Amazon Student Scholarship
Amazon Student will award $250,000 in merit scholarships and $25,000 in textbook gift cards to 50 student members(free to join). Applications will be accepted August 25 through November 20, 2014. This scholarship is merit based. Applicants will be scored on GPA, community service, and leadership experience.

*If you’ve not yet done so, be sure to register with scholarship websites that will send you scholarship notifications. Examples:
*Remember that you need to be admitted to a college before you can be awarded the scholarships from that specific school. Once you’ve been admitted to a college, please let me know if you want me to help you find specific school scholarships and deadlines.
*Make use of the MAC lab during study halls or any free periods you have during school hours to be working on scholarships, applications, searches, etc…

CHA and GSA applications are now available online!!!
CHA – - deadline March 1st – CHA dates – June 4 -June 25
GSA – – application will go live Nov. 15th -deadline Jan. 15th – GSA dates – June 19 – July 8 – Centre College
GSE - – application opens on November 1st – deadline to apply is Jan. 4thth – GSE dates – June 25 – July 15 (program ispatterned after GSA and GSP)

GSE is an immersive, exploratory dive into entrepreneurship and innovation. It is a college and career ready program giving Kentucky high school students a hands-on opportunity to turn their ideas for stuff into business opportunities. GSE empowers student entrepreneurs to make a positive impact on their communities through innovation and to become business leaders of tomorrow. GSE is designed to satisfy performance-based entrepreneurship credit (Code 060185 or 080310) for high school students as a business education elective.
The following colleges and universities will offer scholarships or other incentives to student entrepreneurs who complete GSE's summer program.
Georgetown College, Union College, Brescia University, Campbellsville University, St. Catharine College, Transylvania University, Western Kentucky University
GSP – applications due to Mrs. Dill by 8:00 am on January 2nd. We will be having a meeting next week for students interested in applying for GSP.
