Primary Function:
This position is responsible for working with a wide variety of authors to develop “redline” change packages in support of eventual permanent and interim changes (IC) to Navy Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) and Naval Aviation Technical Information Product (NATIP) publications.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for writing, editing, managing and distributing manuals and other publications that document research and development (R&D), as well as test and evaluation events and projects.
2. Support the production of scientific and technical communication products by fulfilling a wide variety of editorial, processing, and reporting requirements.
3. Write, edit, and publish aircraft-related scientific and technical documents to communicate complex technical material in a highly readable and clear manner. Scientific and technical material includes “redline” change packages for flight and operational manuals, instructions, and procedures applicable to the operation of U.S. naval aircraft and related activities, policy and procedural guidance, and technical reports and papers.
4. Develop complete and accrual NATOPS/NATIP “redline” change packages to address aircraft configuration changes.
5. Develop, gather, and disseminate technical information to pertinent DOD and DON workforce.
6. Work closely with technical personnel to manage NATOPS/NATIP publications and other technical and scientific documentation throughout the developmental and draft stages to ensure proper format, quality, and consistency of editorial and writing techniques are used.
7. Serve as an editorial advisor to Resource Managers and document authors in the research, development, test & evaluation (R&D) community to increase the effectiveness of scientific and technical effort within the Department of Defense (DOD).
8. Must be able to communicate effectively in the English language.
9. Ability to interact with customers and clients on a daily basis and troubleshoot potential problems as necessary.
10. Ability to work as a member of a team and coordinate tasks of team members to ensure the goals of the project are met in a timely manner.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree in English, communications, publications, or a technical field.
· Three (3) years’ experience writing/editing in a professional writing position.
· Experience writing, editing aircraft related scientific and technical materials.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
· Current/Ability to obtain Secret Clearance. Current Clearance Preferred.
Preferred Requirements:
· Master’s degree and editorial certification.
