PTSA Board meeting
June 12, 2012
Present: Amy Holmes, Kellye Slaggert, Deb Shuntich, Donna Carmen
1. Meeting times:
· PTSA lunch meetings: First Wednesday of each month from 12:00 pm-12:45 pm. Location to be determined.
· PTSA evening meetings: The second Tues of each month BEGINNING IN OCTOBER. 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Room 312 if available.
2. Post card PTSA advertising: board approved purchasing 2500 4x6 postcard with various PTSA information to provide to parents throughout the school year. Deb is going to speak with previous treasurer about pros/cons of remaining PTSA or changing to PTSO. Mock up will need to be to printer by mid July to ensure its availability for Freshman Academy.
3. Revised PTSA membership/volunteer forms: Kellye will re-work and email to board members and Ms Jackson.
4. Details of freshman academy: “High School 101 for Parents” will take place the first 20 minutes and last 20 minutes of Freshman Academy (12-12:20 and 2:40-3:00). PTSA will provide: list of common questions/answers for parents, school profile sheet, PTSA parent contact information, Cat Shack apparel and teacher wish lists. Amy will coordinate with the school about having the information mailed out with the schools information being sent to students about the Freshman Academy.
5. PTSA Sanctioned events the past school year included:
· Capital campaign
· Graduation/senior events
· Teacher appreciation
· Cat shack
· 5K
· Parent open house
This upcoming year we will add:
· Freshman’s parent’s night (march/April)
· Freshman academy
· Trunk or treat
· Football/basketball games
· Homecoming
· Prom
6. Finances
· Capital Campaign: Goal is to raise 10,000.00 for this upcoming school year by beginning of October. The school website has a link where parents can make PTSA payments/donation.
· It was approved the PTSA spend the following:
o 200 $ on print materials: 4x6 cards
o 800 $ for Latin books
o 250 for Scholastic magazine in Spanish
The PTSA request for check/payment form will be updated by Kellye and attached to our website.
7. Staff wish list: Attachment to this minutes. Kellye will email it to Ms. Jackson and Ms. Holleman to lists are posted on both the PTSA and School’s website.
8. Contact previous chairs to get notes on the event. Copies of these notes will be provided to Kellye & Ms. Jackson for electronic storage.
9. Parent Education:
· Legal consequences of youthful behavior. Wilson Parker, a professor at Wake Forest University School of Law, wrote Ignorance is no excuse: college students guide to NC law. He has been emailed to get information about his speaking schedule.
· Anti bullying coalition will be contacted for a fall evening presentation for parents.
· Other topics of interest are: sexting, and college preperations
10. Board members will be given copies of 504C tax exempt status. Provide to committee chairs each year and have them turn in after each event. Kellye will update these forms.
