Color Contrast Analyzer Transcript

Welcome to CSUN Quick Tutorials brought to you by Tseng College. This tutorial will cover the Color Contrast Analyzer tool. This free, downloadable tool will allow you to check the colors on your screen for color contrast imbalances that will make viewing a document difficult or impossible for students with visual color deficiencies.

To download this tool, click the Color Contrast Analyzer link in the needed materials section of the webpage. In the middle section of the screen, click Download Color Contrast Analyzer. A download submission form will display. Enter your information into the form. You can abbreviate your name if you feel more comfortable but the email address entry has to be accurate because that is how you will receive the free download. Select yes or no about subscribing and then click submit at the bottom of the page when you are done.

Open your email and you will have mail sent to you shortly. Click the link provided in the email and a Downloads webpage will open. In the center of the page, click link “Download, unzip and place the CCA folder where you like.” After the short download is completed, open it by clicking the tab or open your download folder.

Now double click the Colour_Contrast_Analyser.exe file. A compressed folder window will be displayed. Click “Extract all.” Another window will display asking where you want this file to go. For now let’s house it on the desktop. Click Browse and then in the select destination window click Desktop and then ok. Then click Extract.

Three files will be housed on your desktop. The .exe file is the one we want to open. The others two can be moved to the recycle bin if desired. Double click the remaining .exe file and then click “Run” if a warning is displayed. The Color Contrast Analyzer is now ready to use.

Now we can open the document Poor Contrast from the materials needed section of the webpage. Next, put the Analyzer window on top of the document so we can use it. Now click the first eyedropper button associated with the Foreground. Now move the cursor to the black font color and click it to set the foreground. Now click the second background eyedropper and click the red-brown background. At the bottom of the analyzer window you can see that the contrast of these colors have failed in every size category.
