Covers the transition between exercises involving student actors’ portrayal of self and their subsequent portrayal of characters.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

§  identify the “character”, “relationship”, “Objective” and “where” (CROW) in any given improvisational situation

§  build an audition repertoire for auditioning purposes

§  implement the process of script analysis as developed by Stanislavsky

§  recognize the importance of, and to be able to create, the inner life of a character and external behaviors

§  identify three additional playwrights from Modern Period and comprehend one representative work

§  comprehend the fine points of performance analysis through written play critiques and journal writing

§  improve auditioning skills utilizing the one minute audition, and cold reading audition

5. Planned Sequence of Learning Activities

[These must be designed to help students achieve the learning outcomes.]

1.  Advanced relaxation exercises, sensory exercises, exercises in concentration.

2.  Constructive evaluation of self and others

3.  Students will study the various methods employed to create a believable character in a concrete situation.

4.  They will know how to gather information about the character from observations and/or script analysis.

5.  They will increase their performance skills through concentration, relaxation, physical flexibility and vocal variety.
