Dear Band Parents,

It seems unbelievable, but May 5th is just around the corner as we prepare for the beginning stages of our thirteenth annual “Franklin Goes to the Movies” spring concert. For those who haven’t been to this event before, it’s a really fun evening featuring our Falcon and Concert Bands. As videos are projected onto the large screen above the musicians, the students will perform the live music that relates to the theme. This unique concert is exciting for the kids to let their musical talent fully entertain their audience.

This is our major fundraiser of the year and the funds raised have helped us to pay for the registration fee for the Darien Lake Music Festival and purchase music, supplies, instruments, and storage. We will have a Basket Auction, 50/50 Raffle, and food at this spring concert.

We would like to ask for your help in the following areas:

  • Donate a Gift Basket for the Raffle! If you are able to donate a themed basket, it would be a great help. There are ideas listed on the back of this letter. I am sure many of you can come up with more creative ideas! Now is also a good time to “regift” those perfectly useful, unused gifts that you have received, but have not or do not plan to use.   
  • Donate Food! Send in individually wrapped baked goods (in 50¢ portions), candy bars, and/or bottles of water. Any leads or connections you have to businesses willing to donate party pizzas would be much appreciated!
  • Volunteer! Help set up the raffle and snack area, helpsell basket raffle & 50/50 tickets before and after the concert, and help manage the food area.

*Please let me know how you would be willing to help! Whether big or small, your participation will help make this fundraiser a huge success for our band program. Send in the Parent Volunteer Form and we’ll be in contact with you soon.

The “Franklin Goes to the Movies” will follow a schedule similar to the one below:

5:45pm - Doors open for the Basket Raffle in the Middle Café (Musicians will report at 6pm for tuning.)

6:30pm – “Franklin Goes to the Movies” Spring Concert in the auditorium

7:30pm – Food / Snacks / Basket Raffle in the Middle Café (50/50 and Basket Raffle Tickets will be drawn following the concert in the café.)

Basket Auction Ideas

The general idea is to group like-themed items together. Some ideas to start your thinking are listed below:

Chocolate Lover: candy bars, truffles, everything chocolate!

Movie Night Gift Basket: gift cert. to Family Video, microwave popcorn, candy

Gardener’s Basket: garden gloves, seed packets, gloves, knee pad, trowel

Car Wash Kit: car soap, sponge, air freshener, chamois in a bucket

Relaxation Basket: candle, teach, cute mug, cozy socks, book, CD

Snow Day: mittens, warm socks, hot chocolate, mugs, puzzles

Rainy Day Fun: coloring books, colored pencils/crayons, markers, card game

Handyman’s Collection: tools, tape measure, command hooks, zip ties, duct tape

Ice Cream Factory: toppings, syrup, bowls, scoop, candies, gift card for ice cream

Wine Collection: bottle of wine, glasses, corkscrew, id rings

Kids Cook Theme: measuring cups & spoons, cookie sheet, utensils, boxed mixes

Book Lover: journal, book light, pens/pencils, gift cert. to book store

Coffee Lover: coffee grounds, mug, gift cert.

Home Office Needs: white out, post-it notes, highlighters, notebook, stapler, tape

Darien Lake Fun: sunscreen, sunhat, sunglasses, snacks, cinch bag
