Vocabulary 13

There are many reasons that I absolutely love autumn. It is the beginning of the holiday season. First comes Halloween, then Thanksgiving, and finally Christmas. Halloween is awesome. Last year we went on a hayride. Unfortunately, I am allergic to hay. When the ride ended my body was covered in hives. After the hayride, we all went inside to watch the horror flick, the Dawn of the Dead. There were some scary parts in the movie that really startled me. It was still fun though!

Autumn is also when football season is in full swing. All the fans gather either at the stadium or at parties to pull for the team from their home state. My daughters love to watch football games, too. My oldest daughter even likes to play football, and she is better than average. She does not think it is fair that football is a “boys only” sport! She wishes I would let her try out for the team. I am afraid for her to play with all boys, though. I can just imagine her getting plowed down on a play and breaking her arm or something.

Autumn is also when the leaves begin to change color and fall from the trees. I love to take long hikes and just stare at the beautiful nature around me. At RooseveltState Park in PineMountain, you can stand under the flag pole, and see amazing animals all around you. You may spot a gopher poking its head out of its hole, or maybe even honey bees buzzing around a hive. You can even get into your automobile and drive up PineMountain. There are many places along the way to stop and look out over the beautiful countryside.

We always carve a pumpkin to put on our front porch during the fall season. It is a family tradition. First, we scoop out all of the seeds and gooey stuff. We make the pumpkin completely hollow. Next we draw a face on the front of the pumpkin, and then we get knives and carve away! After that we place a candle inside the pumpkin. Finally, we light the candle, and we all admire our jack-o-lantern. There are so many fun activities in autumn. I am glad it is autumn right now!
