Good Morning!Jan. 11th 2016

T.W.I.K. Notes:

v  Friday January 15th is an early Dismissal! We will be getting out of school at 1:00 P.M. so please make arrangements!

v  Sight word Testing Wednesday!

v  Something I try to teach the children when wearing all of these winter items is to put hats, gloves or anything not connected to the coat in their sleeves because it won’t fall out and the find it the second they put their coat on!

v  Please be sure that your child is putting their first and last name on all homework!

v  Bengalmania is really over, so please be sure to send your child in uniform Wednesday! (Redsmania will be here before you blink!)

v  I know it sounds nuts, but please put names in gloves, hats, scarves, coats and sweatshirts!!!

v  Students have done a pretty good job of bringing books back to earn a Key, but lately they are not coming back on time or at all. Please check your spaces for a bag book with one of the little book in it and please send them back!

v  There is No school Monday January 18th for Martin Luther King’s Birthday!

Math

Topic six is identifying which number is greater and lesser.

Language Arts

We will be testing over our 2md set of sight words this week!!! I have it scheduled for Wednesday, but I will let you know if something happens. This testing will only be over the 2nd set of words. I will do both sets only if they ace their second set! Please be sure they get in plenty of studying before Wednesday, so they may be ready for all of the excitement of moving on.

Magic “e” is something I use with the students to describe what an “e” does to a vowel when it is at the end of the word. I tell the students the vowel is short unless the Magic “e” at the end tells it to say its name. If the “e” is magic it tells the vowel to say its long sound and the “e” says nothing. I also show it to them in writing kind of like this.

N o t + e = N o t e

Our journal in January is going to become more and more independent. This will allow the students to work more on their own level and to really take off with all of their new reading and writing skills!

The sentences we are writing for calendar now have a subject, verb, capital letter and end mark!

Our Jolly Phonics sounds this week are “y” and “z”!

Handwriting

These are the letters we have accomplished and the students should be writing them with complete accuracy at home and at school!

L l I i L l T t O o A a

D d C c E e F f J j G g U u

S s, B b & P p

We are getting ready for the letters R N M & H this week and I hope to have them finished next week!

Unit

It has finally come…. My absolute favorite unit of the year……

The Solar System

We are doing a couple of more things with the Sun, moon and stars this week and we may get a chance to start Mercury, but I am not sure.

This week, the week of the 12th, we are going to begin making our Paper Mache planets. On Thursday we will be making the planets from 9:30-10:30. Then we will also put a second layer onTuesday the 20th! We will let them dry foracouple days and finally on Friday, the 22rd , we will paint them! Please email me if you can come in to help this Thursday the 14th or Next Friday the 22nd ! You are also welcome to send in a note containing the time and day you would like to help! (We really need some adult hands & please plan on coming 15 min early and staying about 10 min late.)

Finally, please send in a shirt your child can wear, that you don’t care if it gets messy!

Thanks again,

Julia
