OVERVIEW

The Amnesty International Media Awards were launched in 1992 to recognise excellence in human rights journalism that has made a significant contribution to the UK public's greater awareness and understanding of human rights issues. We are looking for an excellent researcher with a real interest in the media to help us identify people who could enter the Awards.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the media team to identify all the keystudent, regional, national and international media outlets based in the UK including film production companies (including the likes of Panorama and Unreported World) and photographic agencies. And then for each one find the key contacts from different channels and departments within the various organisations (news desk, digital, PR etc)
  • Help research and compile a list of winners of other relevant awards
  • Help the media team compile a list of relevant organisations and websites we could use to promote the awards
  • Help the media team compile a list of editors of newsletters and intranets of major media outlets
  • Help research and identify journalists who have big followings on twitter we could approach to promote the awards
  • Help the head of media research and identify relevant journalists/previous winners and judges we could approach to be ambassadors for the awards
  • Compile final contact list including previous entrants, judges, staff contacts

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Essential:

  • Excellent communication skills: good telephone manner, persistence and confidence in talking to people across all sectors of the media
  • Excellent research skills
  • Understanding of social media

Desirable:

  • Understanding of Amnesty’s Media Awards
  • Experience in working within the media and/or media related industries
