1.General

The National Library plans to digitise and upgrade its reference library in Mo i Rana. The cinema in Mo i Rana is a reference cinema for quality assurance of the National Library’s preservation work, in relation to both sound and film. The cinema is now being upgraded in accordance with cinema industry standards and recommendations (SMPTE 202M, SMPTE 214M and SMPTE EG 18-1994), as well as recommendations made by FIAF (including recommendations set out in The Advanced Projection Manual, Sætervadet, 2006).

The tenderer must deliver and install a complete D-cinema system. The D-cinema system must be accompanied by a three-year guarantee, and must include spare parts and colour calibration (delivery 1). During 2012 at the latest, an option may be exercised to purchase and install a D-cinema system at NB’s premises in Oslo (delivery 2).

2.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The following technical specifications shall be regarded as minimum requirements in respect of both deliveries 1 and 2.

2.1PROJECTOR

  1. A digital projector shall be supplied that has a luminance providing at least 14 footlamberts of reflected light from the screen in all formats, and in the case of 3D the luminance shall be at least 6 footlamberts (measured through the glasses of the 3D system which the supplier recommends for the projector in question). The screen gain shall be set at 0.9 when calculating light.
  1. The image chips of the projector shall have a minimum resolution of 4096x2160 pixels.
  1. The projector shall be approved by DCI for D-cinema use, and shall have one light modulator per primary colour.
  1. The projector shall have the following inputs in addition to the server input:
  • DVI-D with HDCP-decryption
  • HD-SDI for general HD sources
  • RGBHV (analogue, if relevant via external unit)
  1. The projector shall support watermarking and subtitling in accordance with DCI requirements.
  1. The projector shall have a contrast range of at least 2,000:1 in sequential contrast.

2.2OPTICAL EQUIPMENT

For delivery 1, the image size in Cinemascope will be 5.54 x 2.40 metres. The projection distance is 11.86 metres. The delivered lens shall be designed for 4k projection. The projector zoom shall be motorised and have pre-defined settings. Emphasis will be given to a short changeover between formats (the time must be stated). The supplied optical equipment shall have a focal distance that ensures the correct image size for the following image formats without downscaling, based on a fixed image height on the screen. The formats are specified in 2k, even though the projection is to be 4k.

2.3SERVER

  1. Servers shall be supplied for D-cinema films (JPEG-2000 in accordance with the DCI standard). The server shall be capable of playing films in 2k, 4k and 3D, and shall otherwise meet all DCI and SMPTE requirements, including ISO/IEC 15444-1:2004/Amd 2:2009, and shall be prepared for known future DCI updates.
  1. The server shall be adapted to the projector in question, and the connection between the projector and the server must be approved by DCI with regard to security.
  1. The server shall have a storage capacity of at least 1.7 TB (separate library servers must be offered if this requirement is not met).

2.4ACCESSORIES, ETC.

  1. In addition to the projector/server, a sound interface shall be supplied for AES/EBU. For delivery 1, the installed sound processor is Dolby CP650D. The sound interface shall be separate, and not built into an existing sound processor.
  1. Further, a combined multiprocessor/scaling unit shall be supplied that adapts the image formats of different external video systems to the projector set-up. The multiprocessor shall be capable of decompressing anamorphic signals, and of converting different television standards.

2.5OPTIONS

The National Library wants an option to purchase one complete D-cinema system with the equipment described in section 2.4, a service agreement which includes spare parts for three years, freight, installation and training at NB’s premises in Oslo (delivery 2). This option shall consist of the same equipment described for delivery 1,however the lens must be adaptable to a possible shorter projection distance. The option concerning delivery 2 shall be valid until 1 January 2013.

NB also wants options to purchase a 3D adapter for the projectors supplied under deliveries 1 and 2.
(A total of two adapters, one for each projector.)

All options shall be priced separately insection 2 Options of the price matrix (Annex B).

3.PRICE AND DELIVERY

The tenderer must specify the expected delivery time.

The price offer shall be made using the price matrix (Annex B). Two different prices shall be stated; one for delivery 1 and one for delivery 2.

Delivery 1: The tender shall be for a complete D-cinema system with the equipment described in section 2.4, a service agreement which includes spare parts for three years, freight, installation, colour calibration and training at NB’s premises in Mo i Rana.

Delivery 2 (option): The tender shall be for a complete D-cinema system with the equipment described in section 2.4, a service agreement which includes spare parts for three years, freight, installation and training at NB’s premises in Oslo.

4.GUARANTEE

The tenderer must specify the length of the guarantee in excess of the minimum period, and the scope of the response time included. This will form part of the evaluation.
