Welcome Message from IPMA Chair – Ron Seymour

This year’s forum will be very exciting because the IPMA is partnering with the new Office of the State Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Consolidated Technology Services (CTS) and our Corporate Members to bring you a series of events that are directly in line or very relevant to the new strategic direction of Information Technology in Washington State government.Forum 2012 is focused on bring you sessions that are relevant to the challenges and opportunities that IT professional are facing today. Over the 2 days of Forum, there will be 38 sessions that will cover the topics that you have told the IPMA that you would like to learn more about. The hardest part for attendees will be figuring out which sessions to attend. There are sessions addressing where the future of IT is heading, session related to dealing with issues of today, and session to teach us how to improve on what we are already doing. Forum’s sessions will cover a wide variety of topics including: some of the OCIO’s strategies for Washington State IT, Cloud Computing and what it means to State IT, Software as a Service (SaaS), Mobile computing including Bring your own device (BYOD), Business intelligence and Analysis, and much more.

The State of Washington’s CIO Bharat Shyam will be Tuesday’s keynote speaker. He will speak to the directions he sees for State IT and Wednesday's keynote speaker will be Rob St. John, Director of CTS. Rob will describe how CTS will support the direction of the CIO. Please stop by and visit our Forum corporate members and vendors and especially the IPMA’s booth. Let us know what you think of this year’s event. Remember, the Forum is the centerpiece of a year-long effort by the IPMA to provide you and your colleagues with educational and networking opportunities. T-01Keynote Presentation: An Overview of the State Strategic Plan

Keynote Speaker: Bharat Shyam Office of the Chief Information Office,

Session Description: Bharat will discuss Washington State’s Technology Strategies. The session will include a Q&A from the audience.

Speaker bio: Bharat Shyam was appointed by Governor Chris Gregoire as the state’s Chief Information Officer on November 15, 2011. With nearly 20 years of experience at Microsoft, he brings a deep understanding of software and technology to his new role. Bharat graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay and went on to earn an M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University. Bharat began his career at Microsoft in 1993 as a software design engineer, developing early prototypes of one of the nation’s first smartphones. He most recently served as General Manager for Windows Azure working on the Developer Platform.

T-03 Leadership with a Capital “D”

Targeted Audience: Persons in a supervisory or management capacity

Speaker: Gregg D. Richie, PMP, MCTS

Session Description: Many speakers have discussed the topic of leadership. Most will tell you that leaders are born and not made and vice versa. Some will say that delegation is the key to being a good leader. Others will tell you that without compassion for others and a vision for the future, then there is no way you can be a leader. In the grand scheme of project management, leadership is a necessary skill and most aspects of leadership can be learned. In this presentation, the speaker will demonstrate that the word "Leadership" is actually an acronym that depicts the key facets of a good leader.

What attendees will learn

This interactive presentation guides students through the fundamentals of being a good leader.

Students will gain insights into the “learnable” skills of a good leader.

Speaker Bio: Gregg D. Richie is a Senior Project Manager at Key Consulting, Inc., based in Tucson, AZ, which provides consulting and training in project management techniques, including advanced usage of Microsoft Project. He also teaches project planning at the University of Washington and other topics at colleges in Western Washington on a part‐time basis. His education includes two technical degrees; one in computer programming and one in civil engineering & architectural drafting; he also holds a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University in Workforce Education and Development; and a Master’s Certificate from Villanova University inApplied Project Management.

T-04 Office 365 at the State of Washington

Targeted Audience: IT and business managers, staff, and email administrators

Session Description: The state of Washington is evaluating adoption of Office 365 as one of its first initiatives to adopt Software as a Service (SAAS). Microsoft Office 365 Online Services (in the cloud) can enable access to the same comprehensive set of trusted programs we

now use, with the added advantages coming from data hosting on Microsoft’s network of world-class data centers. With Microsoft Office 365 Online Services, you can access these products from anywhere on almost any device. DNR, along with the OCIO and CTS, have been leading the effort to develop a business case to determine if this new offering can reduce our overall IT expenditures, provide increased functionality and business value to employees, retain or improve the quality of service, and position the state for the future. Come and hear more about the status of this project and how it impacts you.

What attendees will learn:

  1. Attendees will learn how Office 365 can be used to improve collaboration with individuals nearby and in other locations in a secure and reliable manner.
  2. Email administrators will understand their roles in supporting this essential function for their agencies.
  3. Attendees will learn about the proof of concept underway and the timelines for implementation for the rest of the project.

T-05 Video, The Cloud and You

Targeted Audience: State of Washington Government Departments and Agencies

Session Description: In this session attendees will learn how easy it is to implement video solutions via The Cloud and how your Agency can satisfy the video needs of your workforce, without the complexity and cost of the typical video infrastructure required for Firewall Traversal and Multi-Party Conferencing.

What attendees will learn:

  1. General Overview of Cloud-based Video with Cisco TelePresence Callway

T-07 The Right Cloud for the Right Service

Targeted Audience:Technical and business leaders interested in utilizing cloud services.

Speaker:Julian Soh; Microsoft Collaboration Strategist

Session Description:Cloud computing means different things to different people. Depending on your computing needs, whether it is personal or professional, Cloud computing touches all aspects of your life. This presentation will introduce Microsoft’s Vision of Cloud Computing, what Office 365 has to offer to different individuals, and how it changes the way Information Technology is being delivered.

What attendees will learn:

  1. The different types of cloud services and the proper workloads for each.
  2. Business value of leveraging hosted infrastructure.
  3. Future direction of Office 365

Speaker Bio: Julian Soh is the Collaboration Technologies Architect for Microsoft’s Public Sector in the western United States. In his current role, he serves as the technologist and management consultant for public sector customers looking to implement productivity tools such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Exchange, and Lync, both on premises and in the Cloud. Prior to joining Microsoft, Julian served in technical as well as management roles in the public sector. A mechanical engineer by training, Julian holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Information Systems, and is a graduate of Washington State University in Pullman WA.

T-08 Experiences in the Cloud

Targeted Audience: IT managers and technicians considering appropriate cloud computing opportunities.

Speakers:

Session Description: The public cloud platform offers potential for flexibility and cost effective processing options for IT organizations. Agencies are encouraged to adopt public cloud platforms, where appropriate, and private cloud platforms across agency IT teams to enable easy movement of workloads across pools of servers. This session will provide “boots on the ground” insight from agencies seeking to capitalize on public cloud platforms.

What attendees will learn:

Attendees will hear the current view of cloud computing in the state and how the strategic actions will encourage appropriate adoption. In this session, several agencies will present their experiences with the public cloud such as:

T-09 Leading an Analytical Enterprise

Target Audience: Both Business Users and IT Staff and Management will find this topic useful if they are looking at using Analytics

Speakers: Kathy Lange and Aiman Zeid

Session description: As organizations continue to gather a growing range of data and information at speed, they quickly realize that a focus on data, methods and technology alone does not create the insights to improve their overall success. They must also build the capability and commitment to capitalize on the technological tools, sophisticated models, and differentiating data that come with analytics. Organizations make that commitment only when their leadership shepherds the vision, sets the example, builds the talent and reinforces the culture needed to drive true high performance. “Leading an Analytical Enterprise” will help participants understand the role of leadership in making analytics initiatives and analytical organizations succeed. Based on focused research and years of experience helping clients advance analytical capabilities, the workshop facilitators will take a holistic view of analytics across the enterprise, grounding participants in the essentials for developing and maintaining a high performing analytics organization. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from both practitioners and clients on their actual experiences and success stories.

What attendees will learn:

  1. The critical success factors for business analytics, including leadership, enterprise focus, data and infrastructure management, information processes, talent and culture
  2. The role of the analytical leader and what it takes to lead an analytical enterprise

Speakers Bio: Kathy Lange has over 25 years of experience selling and implementing analytics solutions. She is Senior Director of SAS Americas Business Analytics Practice, which assists customers in defining their business problems and crafting strategies for solving those problems with integrated SAS solutions that include business intelligence, data integration, and advanced analytics. Lange joined SAS in 1998 after 14 years at IBM where she served as a statistician for the procurement and quality engineering departments for IBM’s largest manufacturing sites. She holds a BS in Mathematics from University of Delaware and a MS in Operations Research from Union College.

Aiman Zeid, Principal Business Consultant Global Business Advisory. Twenty seven years of Information Management, Business Consulting and Technical Implementations of Business Analytics and Performance Management solutions in multiple industries. Lead Senior Consultant in enterprise business consulting projects to assess organization maturity and alignment with business strategies and objectives. Developed and implemented Enterprise Business Analytics and Information Management Centers of Excellence to mobilize and align organizational resources, processes and culture around strategic business strategies and goals.

T-10 The Importance of an Integrated Enterprise

Targeted Audience: IT, IT Management, Risk Management, Finance

Speaker: Steve Francis, SAP

Session Description:There are many ways to integrate, or to not integrate an enterprise. To not do so, or to do so ineffectively, can lead to operational risks that may appear to have nothing to do with integration. Cloud solutions, and a technology landscape that changes by the month can divert attention from this important objective.

Speaker Bio: Steve Francis is an FRM (Financial Risk Manager), MBA and MIT Sloan Fellow. Earlier in his career Steve developed and implemented custom enterprise solutions and for the past 10 years he has led Enterprise Software Sales teams at webMethods (now Software AG), Oracle and currently at SAP.
