Police and 911 Emergency Dispatch Center News

Vehicle for Sale- silent auction- The Village Police Department put a new 2013 Dodge patrol car into service in August. A 2005 Chevrolet Impala with 118,000 miles will be sold by silent auction. Call 248-628-2841 for bidding information.

Dispatch Changes- The 911 Dispatch Center will be installing new 911 dispatch management information system by the end of the year. Your 24/7 staffed dispatch center will have the newest technology to deliver emergency communication services and to dispatch Police and Fire units in the most efficient, fast and thorough manner, due to their familiarity of the Village and their training as emergency medical and fire dispatchers. More 911 Emergency Dispatch Center News

By January 1, the Village of Lake Orion Police will be dispatched from the Oxford 911 Dispatch center joining the Village Police and Fire Department/ALS for all of Oxford Township. A $65,000 grant from the State of Michigan was awarded for the dispatch consolidation of the Village of Lake Orion to the Village of Oxford.

A 911 Emergency Dispatch Reserve program is being established to provide training and certifications as a job training opportunity. Applications are available at the Village Police Department. Call 248-628-2543 for info.

Oxford Public Works and Water

Hydrant flushing is scheduled the weeks of October 14-25. Although there is much less risk with rust in your water due to the water treatment plant built in 2008, it is a good idea to hold off on laundry when you see the water flowing out of the hydrants in your neighborhood.

A sidewalk connecting the Fire Station at Church Street to the PollyAnnTrail bridge on Louck Street was completed this summer for a safer access for pedestrians and cyclists.

M24 Left Turn Safety & Traffic Calming- Place Making

M24 Washington Street Safety and Traffic Calming Projects are being developed to address speed and left turn safety along with traffic calming and placemaking to be more pedestrian friendly.

Jim Sharpe, of Sharpe Engineering, is working with a Community Committee to develop plans to present to the state highway department, MDOT, for street improvements for the upcoming year’s grant funds. Building and Planning Updates

Almost $2 million of new building permits have been issued so far this year! Eight new single family homes and one commercial building are expected to be completed by the year end. In addition several permits for new garages, decks, swimming pools, roofs, fences and other construction have kept the building department busier than the past four years.

A new updated more business friendly sign ordinance will be in place soon. The new One Stop Ready development process have facilitated new developments such as the Merge Gallery & Art Studio site which will also include a coffee shop, intern residence and public parking right next to the Polly Ann Trail access point.

Downtown Oxford Events

Scarecrow Festival:Home of the mask- held on Saturday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.There will be costume contests, games, a 5K costume run, musical entertainment , chili cook-off, cider & doughnuts, flea market/vendors and much more. Fun events are at Centennial Park, the new Merge site, Oxford Farm and Garden, and at the Polly Ann Trail Bridge. Free hayrides and Gen-X limo rides between the sites will be available.

Soup & Sweet Stroll – Tree Lighting: Friday, December 6at Centennial Park from 5 - 9 pm, restaurants will be offering specialty food items, musical groups, singing, the annual tree lighting and Santa Claus arrives!

Christmas Parade- Saturday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m. This year the theme is Yesteryears/ Westerncelebrating the 80th anniversary of the first radio episode of The Lone Ranger. “From the days of yesteryear- The Lone Ranger rides again. Polly Ann Trail Parking at Merge Site Coming

With Merge Art Gallery & Studio relocating to 33 Pleasant, a new parking lot will be constructed along the Polly Ann Trail just to the south of Merge. The parking lot will hold 22 cars and is a public parking lot for customers of Merge’s business and users of the Polly Ann Trail. The parking lot is to be paved next year.

W. Burdick Street Paving 2017 Funding being sought

Funding for the $550,000 repaving of W. Burdick Street is being pursued with State funds for the year 2017. The project includes drainage improvements and lowering a section of the hill for better visibility of the Polly Ann Trail Crossing. The grant funds are competed on a County wide basis, the Village has requested grants for since 2009. For more information call 248-628-2543.
