7th Grade – Advanced Computer Technology

North Haven Middle School

Mr. Fuggi – Room B104

Course Description and Objectives:

-  Half-Year Class: Every other school day

-  The goal of this course is to provide each student with the skills necessary to effectively use information and technology to live and learn in a complex technology-based society. This course will target technological literacy by providing students with the experiences and skills necessary communicate ideas as needed in 21st century education and work careers.

Materials Needed:

-  Computer Login Info (Username and Passwordà Provided by Mr. Fuggi)

-  Folder

-  Pen or Pencil

Expectations:

-  We follow the same expectations as stated in the N.H.M.S. Handbook in regards to student conduct. Students are expected to be on-time to class, be respectful to the teacher and peers, be responsible for class work and materials needed to succeed in class and to follow the classroom rules and procedures.

Special Rules for Mr. Fuggi’s Classroom:

o  No Food

o  No Gum

o  No Drinks à Only clear water bottles allowed in the designated area

Units of Study:

-  Parts of a computer and computer terminology

-  Computer Operations and the operating system (Windows 10)

-  Navigate through desktop, organize and manage folders and files

-  Microsoft Office 365: Word, PowerPoint (Prezi), Excel, Exchange (Email)

-  Google Software Suite

-  Identify file extension types

-  Intro to Coding

Grading:

-  Grading will be done on a “points-based” system. Each assignment will have a point value and a rubric. Student will be scored based on the criteria listed in the rubric, and will be scored accordingly. Final grade will be total points earned over total possible points.

Homework:

-  In most cases, the only homework students will receive is to get papers signed by their parents/guardian, finish class work, or to study for an upcoming quiz or test. While students will not receive homework each day, I expect for them to complete assignments like this in a timely manner.

Google Classroom

o  New for this year, we will be using Google Classroom for online class resources and file sharing. Each student has a school-based Google account and email for use with Google Classroom. Students will use this to submit assignments throughout the semester and will receive training on how to use this software in class.
