timing and location: / The symposium will discuss the experiences and challenges of urbanization and agricultural modernization in various economies through the retrospect of APEC urbanization and agricultural modernization development process, explore the new urbanization to be green, low carbon, people-oriented and high-efficiency of sustainable development of modern agriculture, and discussion on the interactive development and effects of urbanization and agricultural modernization.
The project will be conducted in China, starting from January, 2017 and ending by June, 2017.
The main activities include creating a conference website, setting up a platform for exchanging and exchanging researchers, launching online forums, seminars and conference results.

I.  Overview / Background

In recent years, the global growth prospect has been challenged by insufficient demand growth, financial market volatility and structural factors. It isoururgent taskto seek new growth drivers and create new economic growth points in the Asia-Pacific economies. Urbanization and agricultural modernization are areas of great potential for cooperation, which have attracted the attention of Asia and Pacific economies.

China has provided many useful experiences in advancing urbanization, and has made remarkable achievements in agricultural modernization construction. It has set a good example in monitoring urbanization and agricultural modernization development. The sharing of these experiences will help to increase the level of urbanization and agricultural modernization in the world.

Asia-Pacific economies have a lot of positive exploration and practice in the new urbanization development model and the development of agricultural modernization, but also face many challenges. Although the economic, social and cultural backgrounds of the Asia-Pacific economies differ greatly, it is of great theoretical significance and practical value for them to share their respective development experiences and learn from each other, and to innovate and develop the mode of development.

The symposium will be held on the experiences and challenges of urbanization and agricultural modernization in Asian Pacific region, and strengthen the cooperation communication between the member economies of the Asia-Pacific region in urbanization and agricultural modernization, form a regional cooperation mechanism for urbanization development, and contribute to the development of urbanization and agricultural modernization in the world.

II.  Objectives:

·  To strengthen coordination and cope with the challenges of regional urbanization.

·  To build a platform to promote research and personnel training and exchange, to establish a viable working mechanism for stabilizing the urbanization and agricultural modernization of various economies.

·  To share experiences for member economies, explore the research methods and manoeuvrability of urbanization and agricultural modernization development monitoring. It is can provide services for government decision-making.

·  To creating the environment, promote regional urbanization and investment and development of modern agricultural.

III.  Proposed activities:

A.  Internet forums and symposium covering topics on:

(1)  Internet forums

§  Establish a platform for cooperation communication

§  Get to know the APEC economies of urbanization

§  Agriculture modernization condition

§  Evaluation methods

(2)  Symposium

§  Review the development situation of urbanization and agricultural modernization in Asia-Pacific region

§  Discuss interactive development and its effectiveness

§  Sharing the research results and experiences

§  Focus on the development model of reference value

§  put forward the feasible strategy of promoting the coordinated development of urbanization and agricultural modernization in the Asia-Pacific region

B.  Outputs:

(1)  Establish a platform for cooperation communication and a database of experts on urbanization and agricultural modernization in the Asia-Pacific region.

(2)  Discuss and propose a scientific and reasonable model for the development of new urbanization and modern agricultural.

(3)  Promote the important research achievements of China's urbanization and agricultural modernization.

(4)  Absorb from other economies research methods and techniques to improve the level of Chinese scholars.

(5)  Provide the important decision-making basis for the Chinese government to formulate policies related to urbanization and agricultural modernization.

(6)  Promote regional communication, strengthen coordination and cooperation to jointly promote the development of urbanization and modern agriculture in the Asia-Pacific region.
