3268 – New Programmes of Study for Levels 1 and 2 in Welding Skills
The last registration date for the 3268-01 Level 1 Awards In Introductory Welding Skills will be 31.03.2013. Replacement Programmes of Study (POS) are already available – these are:
  • 3268-10 Level 1 Award In Introductory Welding Skills – MMA Welding - 600/3748/9
  • 3268-11Level 1 Award In Introductory Welding Skills – Oxy Welding – 600/3753/2
  • 3268-12 Level 1 Award In Introductory Welding Skills – TIG Welding – 600/3754/4
  • 3268-13 Level 1 Award in Introductory Welding Skills – MIG Welding – 600/3749/0
Automatic approval will be given to Centres already approved for 3268-01.A new ‘Certificate’ size qualification has also been developed at Level 2 – details are as follows:
  • 3268-20 Level 2 Certificate in Welding Skills - 600/4884/0.
Learners must achieve a minimum of 14 credits (2 units) from the MMA, MIG, Oxy, TIG and TIG (Aluminium) units.Itis available on the walled gardenand Centres already offering 3268-02 will be given automatic approval. It also appears on the LARA.
Please also note the Level 2 Award In Welding Skills (500/4746/2) Primary Funding Value for 16-18LR and 16-18SSF increased from 45 GLH to 56 GLH as of 01 August 2012. Again this information is detailed on the LARA.
5938-01 –Level 2 Certificate in Manufacturing Practices (600/5114/0)6 600/5114/0

This newlyaccredited qualification is now included in the PMO pathway of the intermediate Improving Operational Performance apprenticeship frameworks (England/Wales)(FR01403/FR01411). It has a credit value of 19 (87 GLH) and consists of the following six mandatory units:
  • 5938-201 Understand statutory regulations and organisation safety requirements (R/503/6147).
  • 5398-202 Manufacturing operation processes (F/503/9464).
  • 5938-203 Contribute to problem solving in working relationships (L/503/9466).
  • 5938-204 Manufacturing products (J/503/9465).
  • 5938-205 Principles of testing and inspection activities for manufactured products (R/503/9467).
  • 5938-206 Fundamentals of using computer controlled equipment (Y/503/9468).

0194-21 –Level 2 Certificate in Improving Business Performance (600/3741/6)6 600/5114/0

Thisaccredited qualification is included in the B-IT pathway of the intermediate Improving Operational Performance apprenticeship frameworks (England/Wales - FR01403/FR01411). It has a credit value of 16 (79 GLH) and consists of the following four mandatory units:
  • 0194-201 Understand statutory regulations and organisation safety requirements (R/503/6147)
  • 0194-202 Contribute to workplace organisation techniques (Y/503/6148).
  • 0194-203 Understand continuous improvement techniques (D/503/6149).
  • 0194-204 Contribute to solving problems in a flow process (R/503/6150).

2875 –Level 4Engineering qualifications.
We are currently developing a suite of Level 4 vocationally related qualifications which will include:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
We expect the qualifications to be accredited in October 2012 and then included in the January 2013 revision of the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Level 4 (England/Wales) apprenticeship frameworks.
We have also added the following qualification to the above frameworks:
  • 9220-41 Level 4 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Leadership- 600/5615/0.
In the comings months we will also develop the followingNVQ qualifications:
  • Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Leadership
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma & Extended Diploma in Engineering Leadership.
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma & Extended Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
2760 -Principal Learning in Engineering
City & Guilds are now recognised by Ofqual as an awarding organisation to develop, deliver and award Principal Learning Qualifications. As a consequence of this we have gained accreditation* for the following:
  • 2760-02 Level 2 Principal Learning in Engineering – 600/6483/3.
  • 2760-03 Level 3 Principal Learning in Engineering – 600/6484/5.
The qualifications will be available on the walled garden for new registrations from Monday 10 September 2012. A webpage will also be available which will include a fast-track form, Handbooks and other supporting documentation.
*Accreditation will be on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
Engineering Apprenticeship Framework updates
The following frameworks have been revised during July & August 2012:
  • Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Level 4 (England) – FR01602.
  • Improving Operational Performance (England) – FR01403.
  • Engineering Manufacture (Operator & Semi-skilled) (England) – FR01465.
  • Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Level 4 (Wales) – FR01610.
  • Improving Operational Performance Non-Statutory (Wales) – FR01411.
  • Engineering Manufacture Level 2 (Operator & Semi-skilled) (Non-Statutory) (Wales) – FR01479.
  • Engineering Manufacture Level 3 (Craft & Technician) (Non Statutory) (Wales) – FR01582.

Autumn Engineering Network Events
As a follow-up to our successful Engineering Network Events in January and February 2012 we will be holding further events in the Autumn of 2012.
Although a formal agenda has not yet been set it is likely to include Qualifications/sector update, 2850 assignments/assessment review & discussion, new Level 4 Qualifications overview, update on Principal Learning in Engineering and the ‘future’.
