SECTION 01003

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE ARCHITECT/ENGINEER

Since it is not feasible to provide Division 1 Specifications that can be applied to all architectural and engineering projects, the Sections of this Division 1 are supplied as guide specifications that should be used by the Architect/Engineers in developing project specifications. The verbatim incorporation of these Division 1 specifications in the Project Manual is not practical because of numerous decisions which must be made by the Architect/Engineer regarding the nature of the project. For this reason, the notes (shown between lines of asterisks) elaborate on the options available to the Architect/Engineer when preparing a specification and to ensure that sound professional judgment is applied.

Appropriate changes and additions required by the notes must be made. Where numbers, words, phrases or sentences are enclosed in brackets [ ], a choice or modification must be made. Where blank spaces [ ] occur in sentences, the appropriate data must be inserted. Where entire paragraphs are not applicable, they should be deleted. Additional sentences may be added if necessary. The final project specifications shall not include notes to the Architect/Engineer.

The Architect/Engineer may add sections, or delete sections as required to accommodate the project's specific needs.

Modifications or additions made to any Section of the Division 1 and Sections proposed to be deleted from or added to Division 1 must be brought to the attention of the MDAD's Project Manager and shall be subject to his approval prior to incorporating in the Project Manual.

Do not delete or modify the footer appearing at the bottom right of every sheet. The date in the lower left corner shall be modified to suit the project, and the MDAD project number, only, shall be added beside the revised date, with a space between.
