Vendor Registration Information and Requirements
Vendor--Category A
- Owns and/or operates farms in South Carolina.
- Sells only product grown by the farmer in South Carolina
- Person selling the products must be the farmer, a member of the farmer’s immediate family, ordirectly employed by the farmer (proof of employment must be provided in writing to the Market Office).
- Registered as a Certified Grower by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture.
Vendor--Category B
- Owns and/or operates farms in South Carolina.
- Sells only product grown in South Carolina.
- Sells products grown by other South Carolina farmers in addition to what is grown on their own farms.
- At least fifty percent of product sold must be grown on the farm of the farmer operating the stall. If less than 50 percent, must register as a Category C vendor.
- Vendor must display names of farmers whose products are offered for sale in the stalls.
- Person selling the products must be the farmer, a member of the farmer’s immediate family, or directly employed by the farmer (proof of employment must be provided in writing to the Market Office).
Vendor--Category C
- Sells only product grown on farms located in South Carolina.
- Sells for one or more farmers, but is not employed by the farmer(s).
- May only sell in wholesale quantities.
- Sells only product fresh from the farm (no processed, packaged or frozen product).
- Must post, in a conspicuous manner, a list of all farms from which product has been acquired.
- Vendor must be a resident of the State of South Carolina.
- Vendor must have a State tax ID number issued by the Department of Revenue. (A copy must be provided to the Market Offices.)
- Vendor must have a current PACA license issued by the USDA-AMS. (Copy of license must be provided to the Market Offices.)
- Vendor must meet with the Market Manager prior to registration, and before occupying space in the Farmers Sheds.
- May not occupy a stall without prior approval of the Market Manager.
- Stalls for Category C will be located beyond the restrooms (to the east).
General Requirements and Information:
- All farmers must re-register for the 2017 season.
- Seasonal leases will be for a minimum of four (4) months. Vendors must enter a seasonal lease to obtain the monthly rate. Non-leaseholders must pay the daily rate.
- All leases must be paid in advance. No farmer access cards will be issued without the Market having received full payment.
- A daily vendor using a vacant leased stall must vacate stall upon the arrival of the lease holder.
- Season leases may be extended on a month-to-month basis. Vendors must notify the office of their desire to extend their lease, and must make the required payment prior to the first day of the month. If advance notification and payment are not received, the stall rent will revert to the daily rate.
- Any space occupied by a vendor is subject to rental fees.
- Daily vendors must leave the stall vacant and clean upon departure from the market.
- Product may not be purchased or otherwise acquired from the wholesale warehouses and resold under the famer sheds.
- No sales may be conducted outside of the sheds.
- Walking lane must be kept free of product and debris.
- If a Gate Attendant is not on duty when a vendor arrives, they must pay the Shed Manger or come to the office to pay immediately.
Product Display:
- Product must be properly marked as to its point of origin. Any product in a container bearing an origin other than South Carolina must be removed from the farmers shed. (Note: containers may say “Product of the USA”).
- Product left unattended in a stall is solely the responsibility of the vendor.
- Daily vendors must keep product on a truck or trailer, except for product placed on the floor for display purposes.
- Stalls are for the purpose of selling product. Vendors may not engage in repacking operations under the Farmer Sheds.
Waste:
- All waste must be transported by the vendor to the waste receptacle located at the east end of the Farmer Shed area. No waste shall be placed on the stall floor, the asphalted area, in the roll away trash cans, or around the building columns. Under no circumstances shall waste be thrown into the wooded area adjacent to the South Shed.
- Any material such as boxes, pallets, racks, produce, etc. placed in the areas adjacent to the restrooms, the concession area or the parking lots will be disposed of without notice.
- Vendors may not use areas for storage of pallets and boxes. A maximum of 8 pallets may be retained by the farmer within an individual stall.
Parking & Vehicle Storage:
- Vehicles must be within the stall being used by the vendor, or parked in a designated parking spot in the parking lot.
- No parking in the Fire Lanes.
- No personal vehicles may be parked under the shed. Only vehicles being used to hold and display product may be parked in the vendor’s stall.
- Storage trailers shall be parked in areas designated by the Market Manger. Vendor will be charged a fee of $150.00 per month, and the fee must be paid in advance. Trailers must display the name of the vendor and a current telephone number. Trailers must also be roadworthy and be properly registered. A copy of the registration must be given to the Market office.
- Forklifts being operated within the SCDA area must be registered with the Market office. The forklift must display the vendor’s name and telephone number. The vendor must provide the Market Office with proof that operator has received proper training.
General Information:
- All vendors must acknowledge having read the special conditions before identification cards can be issued.
- Complete rules and regulations are available in the Market Office. Copies will be provided upon request.
- Category A & B leaseholders may rent display tables, if available, from the Market for a fee of $25.00 per month.
- Vendors may not have pets in their stalls.
