GOOD NEWS - we want to celebrate the many successes occurring in arts education in North Carolina! If you have a “good news” item that you feel is appropriate to share with stakeholders throughout the state, please email the item to or . Submissions should be focused on arts education accomplishments (examples would include teacher of the year designation – system or regional; innovative programs; regional, state or national recognition, awards, honors; etc) and should be limited to 100 words or less. CINDI RIGSBEE SELECTED AS ONE OF FOUR FINALISTS FOR NATIONAL TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Cindi Rigsbee, a sixth/seventh grades reading resource teacher at Gravelly Hill Middle School, Orange County Public Schools, today was selected one of four finalists for the 2009 National Teacher of the Year. Rigsbee is currently serving as North Carolina’s 2008-09 AT&T North Carolina Teacher of the Year. To read more about her selection,

NC MUSIC EDUCATOR, JANICE WILSON, BRINGS THE NUTCRACKER TO LIFE FOR STUDENTS

10th ANIIVERSARY OF THE UNION COUNTY PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLE

UCPE (Union County Performance Ensemble) is celebrating its 10th anniversary this season with a production of The Wizard of Oz. UCPE is a collaborative effort between students and arts teachers in Union County. It is led by a committee of teachers which includes NCTC members Larry Robinson & Lisa Stafford; NCMEA members Debbie Watwood, Jeff Reynolds, & Kimberly Morgan; Bianca Harris, dance educator; & Kelly Lepsig, English teacher. Students from all 10 public high schools in the county have the opportunity to audition for roles as cast, crew, & pit musicians. Performances of The Wizard of Oz are February 19-21 & 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. and February 29 & March 1 at 2:30 p.m. For ticket information, call (704) 290-1599.
