Re-elected Members of the School Council 2015 – 2016
Year 6 – Karina
Year 5 – Ellie and Rahzan
Roles of a School Council Representative
The roles were discussed between the group and it was agreed that all members would:
1)Always be good role models by following the school rules.
2)Be respectful to everyone in our school, especially visitors.
3)Be responsible and always try to help.
4)Take an active part in the meetings by discussing and sharing ideas.
HT says these are fantastic.
Roles within the School Council
The council discussed and agreed that the year 6 members should hold the positions. However all members were keen to have active roles too. It was therefore decided that each member would have their turn to take minutes for a meeting but Edouardine would be responsible for typing and displaying them on the School Council board. It was also agreed that Rahzan would assume the role of Shadow Treasurer.HT says what a great idea.
Chair – Charlotte
Secretary – Edouardine
Treasurer – Karina
Dates of meetings for the year
All meetings will take place on a Friday at 2:15. The future dates have been emailed to the teachers and will be displayed on the School Council board.
It was felt that a meeting every 6 weeks was too infrequent and suggested having bi-weekly meetings.HT – I would suggest every 3 weeks; then it gives you time to implement ideas.
The re-elected council members said that there weren’t enough meetings last year and they felt that they weren’t able to do as much as they had wanted.HT – point noted
Action Plan
The members reviewed the current action plan and agreed on the tasks that had already been achieved. These have been highlighted.
Miss Weatherby will prepare a description of the 3 roles (chair, secretary and treasurer) and will confirm the budget with Mr Dyson.£500
The upcoming Takeover Challenge in November was introduced. All members were interested and in support of the activity.
Miss Weatherby to find out more information about the day, what it entails and the roles within school that can be applied for. HT says:All 10 members will have the chance to run the school for the day – discuss what roles will need filling.... x1 HT; x1 person to do Attendance Assembly; x1 for Good workers; a Business Manager; a Lunchtime Supervisor..... discuss what else.A letter applying will be needed.
The School Rules
The group discussed the school rules that were created by last year’s school council. Everyone agreed that there was no need to amend them and stated how they liked that each rule was a rhyme. This made them easy to remember.
Ellie and Bradley will visit every class next week (before Wednesday 8th October) to ensure that the school rules are displayed.
New business
The following ideas were suggested:
-School council books for each member to record notes, suggestions from other pupils or information to feedback to their class.HT – essential, then you don’t forget what the class requests
-Suggestion boxes (one in each key stage) to encourage children to share their thoughts and suggestions of how to improve their school.HT – why not
-Library needs changing – painting, redecorating, new books, computer (so children can independently borrow books). Introduce an outside library on the warm, sunny days. It was said that the library is rarely used by children or as a class and is locked making it difficult to gain access. It was said by several members that the library should be a place that makes you want to read.A role x1 pm for Miss Weatherby perhaps with the School Council to help on a rota basis.... I will get Business in the Community to redecorate.
-All were in favour of improving the library being the school council’s main focus.
-Miss Weatherby asked all council members to prepare a few lines (introducing themselves and what they feel they bring to the school council) to record on talking postcards for the school council board.HT loves this one as well... I have lots of talking postcards in my room.
The meeting closed at: 2:55 pm
An excellent meeting team – excellent; I will put on the website this evening and can you display on the noticeboard please...... this is so good – you can read and share this on Monday’s assembly.
