Caregiver Job Description
Description of Work
A Caregiver is an individual who observes a Client’s behavior in order to maintain safety, prepares meals, does grocery shopping, housekeeping, laundry and serves as a means of transportation using the Client’s automobile. Caregivers are limited to providing only assistance in personal care such as lifting, turning, dressing, walking, bathingchanging and using the restroom.
Qualifications for Consideration
Must be 18 years of age. Must be able to speak, read and write the English language. Honesty and integrity are required. Must have at least one year’s experience in caregiving or currently a Certified Nurse Aide. Must not have a criminal record. Must be able to tolerate a physical workload including standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to tolerate a variety of housing conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in personal care such as lifting, turning, dressing, walking, bathing, changing and using restroom. All personal care is to be assisted by either the Client or the Client’s family.
- Clean and tidy all areas used by Client including sweeping, dusting, dishwashing, linen changing and laundry.
- Prepare and administer Client meals according to the Client’s dietary needs and wants.
- Errand running for Client (shopping, pharmacy, etc.)
- Transport Client in the Client’s automobile or accompany on public transportation
- Report any and all violations of Client’s rights. Report any damage, destruction or removal of any of Client’s personal property.
- Complete and submit all documentation as designated in a timely manner.
- Maintain Client confidentiality at all times.
- Provide own transportation that is in good working order.
- Responsible for keeping all personal business private. Problems with family, friends or employers are not to be discussed with Client or Client’s family members or friends. Personal phone numbers are not to be given for any reason to a Client, Client’s family members of friends.
- Smoking is not permitted on any shift even with the consent of the Client. Smoking breaks are not permitted during a shift.
- Immediate phone contact of my Supervisorif any changes occur in my schedule, if I am late for my assignment or if other problems occur. If the answering service is reached I must ask to be patched through to a supervisor. Cell phone texting is not an acceptable means of communicating my delay or inability toarrive for my caregiver assignment. At no time is the Client to be contacted unless specifically instructed by Supervisor.
Any one assignment may or may not include all the duties listed above, nor do the listed examples include all duties or responsibilities that may be required.
