CHARITY – UNITY – FRATERNITY – PATRIOTISM

GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE Worthy Brothers,
The Lord has Risen, He has Risen Indeed, Hallelujah!!!
We have sacrificed through Lent to better ourselves and now we celebrate!!!
We are a very busy and productive Council and we have the Brother Knights who always come through in accomplishing the tasks at hand.
We started off March with Brothers Brian Giradot, Luis Montes, Jeremy Pace, and Vicente Mendiola receiving the honor of the 2nd and 3rd Degree.
Then we worked the Crab Feed for the Women"s Club.
We were then honored to be asked to Usher the "Rite of Election" at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament with Bishop Soto with Brothers Hector Luera, Mike Amparan, Mark Donovan, Ray Moreno, Eligio Valdez, Don Snow, and Myself directing the large congregation of Observers.
We then hosted our very successful Crab Feed with SCNC with many Brothers pitching in where needed, from set up, to cooking the pasta, to clean up and everything in between. We then moved on to the Flag Raising Ceremony at St. Charles Borromeo in honoring our Veterans.
Moving on into April, Congratulation to our Worthy Brothers in the honor of receiving the highest order of the 4th Degree and are now honored as Sir Knights; SK Mike Amparan and SK Joaquin Guerro.
On April 12, The Knights hosted the Welter Weight Championship Fight, "Pacman vs Bradley2" with many Brothers and family members chipping in to make this a very successful event with proceeds going to the St. Charles School, SCB 8th Graders, and the Knights of Columbus. Thanks to the Whole Cheguina family and the many Brothers who helped with the set up, Brothers Jerome, Jesse Jr., Jon Espera, Robert Cushing, John Belen Jr., and a few more Brothers and friends worked the BBQ; Mark Donovan working the 50/50 raffle; Tony Solomon at the Door; Snack bar was handled by Randy and Colby Rojas, Don Snow, Eligio Valdez, Julius Totimeh as well as a few other Brothers. Ticket printing by Henry Francis, Jesse and Marty supplied the sound and visual equipment with MC Jesse Jr. doing the announcing of the event etc... GREAT JOB!!!
Thank you to the Brother Knights who filled in where needed; Brothers Mike Amparan, Brian Girardot, Ernesto Shanklin, Bran Moock, Jeremy Pace, John BelenSr., and Ron & Dan Pettit. I truly apoligize if I missed acknowledging you in this newsletter. If you were there, you were a blessing...
Thank you to Brother Mike Amparan in volunteering to take charge of our KofC shirt and jacket apparel.
We welcome our new Brother Knights to our Council: Brother Bruce Smallwood, Brother Jose Juarez and Brother Monti Leone.

DISTRICT DEPUTY REPORT

On April 27, 2014, Divine Mercy Sunday, Pope John Paul II joined the company of saints, some of whom he himself canonized. During his pontificate, spanning 27 years from 1978 to 2005, Pope John Paul II canonized 482 saints, more than all the other popes before him combined.

The pope who ushered the Catholic Church into the new millennium and urged Catholics to embark on a new evangelization is now one of the Church’s newest saints. Pope John Paul II was canonized in front of millions of devotees, including a delegation of the Knights of Columbus, headed by Supreme Knight Carl Anderson.

“Founded on principles of charity and unity by a priest who, like John Paul II, dedicated his ministry to the support of Catholic families, the Order will continue working to heal our wounded culture by ‘introducing love into love.’”

— Supreme Knight Carl Anderson

Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was the fourth of fourteen children born to a family of sharecroppers that lived in a village in Lombardy. He was ordained a priest on 10 August 1904 and served in a number of posts, including papal nuncio in France and a delegate to Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. In a consistory on 12 January 1953 Pope Pius XII made Roncalli a cardinal as the Cardinal-Priest of Santa Prisca in addition to naming him the Patriarch of Venice.

Roncalli was elected pope on 28 October 1958 at age 76 after 11 ballots. His selection was unexpected, and Roncalli himself had come to Rome with a return train ticket to Venice. He was the first pope to take the pontifical name of "John" upon election in more than 500 years, and his choice settled the complicated question of official numbering attached to this papal name due to the antipope of this name.

His passionate views on equality were summed up in his famous statement: 'We were all made in God's image, and thus, we are all Godly alike.’ John XXIII made many passionate speeches during his pontificate, one of which was on the day that he announced the Second Vatican Council in the middle of the night to the crowd gathered in St. Peter's Square: "Dear children, returning home, you will find children: give your children a caress and say: This is the caress of the Pope!" “GOD BLESS THEM”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my Brother Knights for their support and prayers these past 3 years. I will step down as your District Deputy June 30th. It has been a great pleasure to represent you and you make me proud to be a Knight.

Vivat Jesus

From the Financial Secretary:

Many of our members still have not paid their $35.00 dues for 2014 even though they had received a "Second Notice of Dues Owed." If for some reason you did not receive either the first or second notice please call Bob Reinaldo, FS, at 995-3357 or 689-4229. If you have not paid your dues for 2014 please pay ASAP before the Financial Secretary is required to send out the third and final notice. We need all of our members. Do not let an oversight to pay your dues be the vehicle that makes us lose a good member. If you are facing a hardship let me know.

Thanks,

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS INSURANCE
Making a difference for life /

Are you member of a "Secret Society"?

While recruiting, I am confronted with the question "Is the KofC a Secret Society?" the answer is a firm "NO". Secret Societies of the past did not allow their members to be actively visible to the general public. Their membership roles, charters, and rules were privileged to members only. Almost all activities were limited to members and held in secret.

Does that sound like the Knights of Columbus? NO!

We are a "Benefit Society"! The primary mission of the Knights of Columbus is to "protect widows and orphans", openly support the Catholic Church and her values, enthusiastically assist our parish priest, and actively evangelize within our families and communities. As members, we are asked to wear our name badges or Columbian Lapel Pin at public events, volunteer as Knights around our parishes and within the community, invest our time and talent to recruit new members from the ranks of Catholic men (ages 18 or older), defend our principles of faith, respect our priest and the religious brothers and sisters, go to meetings, and whenever possible utilize the Insurance Program. No secrets here, though some people treat the Life Insurance Program as a secret to the extent that they avoid a FREE service.

Do you know exactly what kind of Life Insurance you have and how it works? Do you know if it can be "converted"? Will the premiums go up in the future? If the stock market plunges again or inflation "takes off" will your policy keep up with the times? Can your family afford not to have life insurance? Are you taking advantage of the "Riders" you paid for? Do you know the advantages and disadvantages between a Group Policy, a Term Policy, a Whole Life Policy, a Universal Life Policy, a Key Person Policy, a Survivorship Policy; the list goes on and on. When you bought your last policy, did you fully understand the difference between Guaranteed Values and Non-guaranteed Values with respect to the independent rankings by Standard and Poor's or AM Best?

Let me provide a free pair of eyes to give you a second opinion and explain what you have. That is better than "no eye'dia" or I think...

To contact me with regards to any of your insurance needs,

Please call my cell at 707- 301-1783 or email - .
