The DCSTA announces the opening of nominations for the 2008 Science Teacher of the Year Awards. These awards are designed to honor one classroom teacher in each of the following three levels of teaching: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. This teacher is someone who motivates, makes learning truly exciting; a dedicated professional who nurtures hidden talents and abilities; a creative, caring individual who takes teaching science beyond the textbook. The Beckman-Coulter Corporation will judge and present the selected teachers with a certificate, a plaque, and a cash award at the annual Banquet at the Doubletree Hotel in Coconut Grove. All applicants will receive a certificate of acknowledgement.

ELIGIBILITY: Nominees for the awards must attend the Banquet [please see Banquet Reservation Form], be a DCSTA member, a full-time (the majority of the day in direct instruction to students) classroom teacher and be in at least their third year of teaching in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Previous winners may apply after 5 years.

NOMINATIONS: Only one typed application will be accepted. Use a type size no smaller than 10-point. Please submit original and 4 copies. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
