Dear Prospective Dance Teams,
The South Asian Student Association (SASA) at the College of William & Mary is proud to announce the third annual Nach Ke Dikha (NKD) Bhangra and Fusion Dance Competition on April 19, 2014! The competition and associating events will all be held on or around the campus of the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA. The show will be held in Phi Beta Kappa Hall on the College’s New Campus.
In its third year of operation, the NKD committee is once again making the competition a weekend event. The night before the competition we will have a mixer open only to participants and the organizers. The next day will be the actual competition, followed by an after party for performers and spectators.
As many of you already know, Nach Ke Dikha is a unique competition experience with categories for both Bhangra and Fusion dance. Each category will consist of three competing teams, and one grand prize of $1000 will be awarded to the winner of each category.
Enclosed in this registration packet are the procedures for application to the competition, a list of rules and regulations regarding conduct at the competition, judging criteria and rubrics for both categories, and a formal registration form to be submitted by each team wishing to apply. All teams are required to submit their completed registration packets via email by 11:59pm on January 25, 2014 to . Any applications received after this time will not be considered by the committee. Please contact the NKD committee as soon as possible if any conflicts arise during the application process resulting in delayed application. Teams will be informed of their acceptance to the competition by February 3, 2014.

Registration Procedures
1) Submit an e-mail to after completing the attached registration form with all necessary information that follows in this packet. Please feel free to contact us at that email with any questions or concerns about the registration process.
2) Submit a 2-4 minute video of your team
· 75% of the dancers your team wishes to include on their roster at Nach Ke Dikha must be in the video
· Videos must be submitted via email through private, unlisted YouTube links
· Only one camera angle is allowed for the video
· Any professional recording and/or editing is not allowed; the video must be one continuous shot
· Dancers in the video may not wear clothing that represents any team, school, or region
· Teams that are planning to use a segment involving any props (e.g. saaps, khunde, etc.) in their audition video MUST record the video using the actual prop. Air-dancing/faking the props will NOT be accepted.
3) Submit a non-refundable registration fee of $40 via PayPal (not including service fee) to the following email address: . If your team is selected for our competition, we will ask you to submit an additional $10 per team member to cover the cost of t-shirts and food.
4) In addition, please send us 1 team photo featuring all members of the team that will be performing at Nach Ke Dikha on April 19, 2014.
5) Exhibition acts must go through the same registration procedures.
We only allow the use of electronic submission so that we can expedite the registration process and do our part in saving the environment by cutting down on the use of paper. Questions or concerns can be directed to about any part of this process.

**If we do not receive your registration materials by 11:59pm on January 25th, your team will not be considered for participation in the competition.
Rules and Regulations
The team captain must read this page, fill in his or her name(s), and submit the edited contract along with the rest of the registration packet by the application deadline (January 25, 2014).

I. I will not institute any suit or action of law against the South Asian Student Association at the College of William & Mary or any Affiliated Organization, nor institute, prosecute or in any way aid the prosecution of any claim, demand, action, or cause of action for damages, costs, loss of service, expenses or compensation for or on account of any and all known and unknown, foreseen and unforeseen bodily and personal injuries, damage to property, and the consequences thereof, resulting from my participation in Nach Ke Dikha competition.
II. I understand that in the event that a lawsuit is instated, the lawsuit will be settled in the state of Virginia, subject to arbitration.
III. I hereby agree to abide by and obey all the rules and regulations of Nach Ke Dikha competition, as stated below.
IV. I accept the responsibility of the actions of my team members while at the official hotel, during rehearsal, during the show, and other activities associated with the competition weekend.
V. I confirm the team members listed on the registration sheet are the same members that will be participating in the show. If any of the members withdraw from the competition, or new ones are added, I will send the updated roster to in a timely manner.
VI. As the team captain, I will ensure that all members of my team will adhere to the guidelines, deadlines, and rules and regulations for the Nach Ke Dikha competition.
VII. I understand that if at any time during the competition, be it before, during, or immediately after the show, a team member violates any rules or regulations, that member will be asked to leave immediately, regardless of whether or not he or she has performed.
VIII. I understand that the Nach Ke Dikha organizers have the right to deduct points from my team’s score, disqualify my team, or revoke prizes if the rules and regulations are not adhered to.
IX. Nach Ke Dikha (NKD) is an intercollegiate Bhangra and Fusion competition. Performers must be currently enrolled in a university. Independent teams are allowed as long as all performing members are students in college. Please keep in mind on the day of the competition we will be checking for school IDs.
X. A minimum of eight (8) and no more than sixteen (16) people may perform on a team. A person may only dance for one team. All members listed on the roster as performers must be a part of the performance at some point.
XI. There will be two separately judged divisions in this competition: Bhangra and Fusion. The judges for the two divisions will not play a role in deciding the winner of the other division at all. More details about all the judges will soon be posted on http://www.wmnachkedikha.com.
XII. Only one assistant/manager will be allowed per team. Please include this name on the registration form under the slot (M) if you would like to bring a manager with your team.
XIII. Dances may NOT be longer than 10 minutes. There will be no exceptions to this rule, so please do not ask for extensions. This time limit includes any intro video that a team may choose to show as part of the performance. If any team goes over the allotted 10 minutes, points will be deducted from the team’s overall score.
XIV. Oversized props will be permitted on stage, as long as they do not require more than 2 minutes to set-up. If a team spends more than 2 minutes setting up, points will be heavily deducted from the overall score for “delay of show.”
XV. Glitter, confetti, powder or any other items that will require clean up are strictly prohibited. Any team that uses any such materials may face heavy point deductions or disqualification.
XVI. Each team MUST submit a list of props as part of this registration form. Nach Ke Dikha will review the list of props and send approval to teams soon after the registration packet is received. There is no guarantee that your prop will be permitted on-stage, so you MUST get prior approval. On the day of the show, each person must display their university ID for check-in and entry into the auditorium. All teams should be checked-in at the auditorium by 2pm on April 19th.
XVII. The consumption of alcohol or any illegal substance is prohibited within the vicinity of the auditorium. There will be a zero tolerance policy in this regard.
Prizes
First Place Grand Prize: $1,000 in each category
Travel Accommodations
Nach Ke Dikha (NKD) will provide a travel stipend of $100 to all teams that are competing or performing in the competition. This can be used for gas, car rentals, or any other costs associated with transportation to Williamsburg, VA. Please keep all receipts as proof for anything besides gas money.
