Support for ELLsand Literacy Camp 2013
Participants will engage in professional learning with a goal to deepen their understanding of adolescent literacy and build their capacity to lead the learning of others in order to support the programming for English language learners across the curriculum.

Carol provides support to teachers across subject areas and grade levels, coaching them in planning, assessing, and reflecting on instruction. She has worked with elementary and secondary schools, training teachers and administrators on effective programs and instruction for literacy and English language learners. / / Steven Katz
Intentional Interruption: Breaking Down Learning Barriers to Transform Professional Practice
Steven’s areas of expertise include cognition and learning, teacher education, networked learning communities, and the design of data-driven systems for organizational accountability, planning, and improvement.Over the course ofthe four days, participants will share experiences, ideas and insights in whole group and breakout sessions. Learning sessions will be facilitated by a team of ESL/ELD educators.
Who?Teachersinterested in enhancing their capacity to support English language learners.
For Example: ESL/ELD grades 7 – 12teachers, department heads responsible for ESL/ELD, ESL/ELD board leads, ESL/ELD secondary subject-specific teachers, and elementary intermediate leads.
Teachers must have permanent contracts in publicly-funded Boards of Education in Ontario.

When?Monday, August 19th (starting at noon) to Thursday, August 22nd (finishing at noon)
To ensure a full learning experience, camp participants are required toattend all days and sessions (mornings, afternoons and evenings).
Cost?The cost of shared accommodation (2 per room), meals, and travel (according to ministry guidelines)will be paid in full by the Ministry of Education Support for ELL initiative. Camp organizers will make all arrangements for meals and accommodation. Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.
How?Complete and mail the registration form and a cheque for $100.
A $100 personal cheque (one per applicant) should be made payable to Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE) and is required to secure a space. The cheque will only be cashed if the participant cancels after July 1, 2013, does not attendcamp or fails to participate in all sessions. Deposit cheques will be returned to participants on the final day of camp prior to returning home.
Applicants will be accepted based on the date of the receipt of application and deposit cheque. Consideration will be given to balance breakout groups. Applicants will receive a response in mid-June.
