H. Required Control Functionality
a.The Plant Master controller shall compare the measured steam pressure signal to a local setpoint and provide a supervisory setpoint to all the Boiler Master controllers. Up to three Boiler Masters shall be supported as standard.
b.When all of the Boiler Master controllers are in either Manual or Track mode, the plant master controller shall automatically switch to Track mode with its output following the highest Boiler Master demand signal, and the setpoint tracking plant pressure demand. When any one of the Boiler Master controllers switches to Automatic mode the plant master controller shall switch into Manual mode to provide automatic bumpless, balanceless transfer.
c.A Lead/Lag function shall be available that brings boilers online automatically as plant demand requires, and automatically shuts down the boilers running at minimum load when plant demand decreases. It shall be possible to set the boiler lead/lag sequence and a deadband on the load points from the front panel of the controller. If the plant master does not receive the Release-to-Auto signal from the BMS within a user-selected time period, it shall attempt to start the next boiler in the sequence. If the final sequence does not match the original configured sequence, the plant master shall automatically change its sequence and sequence indication to match the actual order in which the boilers start. The Lead/Lag option shall provide an Hours of Operation meter and display for each boiler, and indication of the number of days the current sequence has been in operation, on the front panel of the controller.
d.A steam flow feedforward calculation shall also be available to anticipate changes in plant demand.
e.Options shall not be mutually exclusive and shall be capable of being enabled from the front panel of the controller without reconfiguration of the control strategy, provided the required I/O is installed. It shall be possible to add optional I/O in the field at any time and have it automatically recognized once the option is enabled.
f.All inputs and outputs shall be galvanically and optically isolated such that a failure of one I/O point shall not cause failure of any other.
g.Communication via RS-485 Modbus RTU for connection to a computer or operator panel shall be included as standard.
h.Controllers shall carry a 2-year warranty after date of shipment.
i.Boiler-specific documentation that clearly explains system installation, setup, startup and operation of the controller for combustion control shall be provided. Generic controller installation, configuration and operation manuals shall not be acceptable.
j.The system shall be factory manufactured and tested according to FM/CSA Class 1, Division 2, Groups A,B,C,D. The control system shall be a MicroMod Automation, Rochester NY, TrimPAK combustion control system.
