LOKEN WINS STATE FFA PREPARED SPEAKING CONTEST

MADISON, WIS., June 13, 2017 – Tommie Loken of the Mineral Point FFA Chapter was selected as the state winner of the FFA Prepared Speaking Contest with his speech titled: GMO. Tommie’s advisor is Michael Robinson. The Prepared Speaking Contest was held at the 88th State Convention of the Wisconsin Association of FFA in Madison, WI.

The Prepared Speaking Contest recognizes outstanding FFA members for their ability to present factual information on agricultural topics in a well thought-out and logical manner.

The other finalists were: 2nd Place: Amelia Hayden, Big Foot

3rd Place: Katelyn Zimmerman, Spencer

4th Place: Colleen Toberman, Parkview

The State FFA Prepared Speaking Contest is sponsored at the state level by the Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative, BMO Harris Bank and the Floyd Doering Endowment. The prepared speaking contest is sponsored on the national level by Monsanto.

Tommie Loken will represent Wisconsin at the 90th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana this October. The national winner will be selected from a group of state finalists, and will receive a plaque and additional scholarship money.

The Wisconsin FFA Convention celebrates the accomplishments of the students, advisors and supporters. It hosts over 3,000 members, advisors and guests, representing 250 local agricultural education programs. This year’s convention was held June 12 to 15 at the Alliant Energy Center Exhibition Hall in Madison, Wis. The Wisconsin Association of FFA is a leading student organization due to the efforts of more than 20,858 students across that state. With a focus on premier leadership, personal growth and career success, students’ FFA activities complement agricultural classroom instruction by giving them an opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge while gaining real-world experience.
