How do these activities compare to those you participated in in your youth? 20’s, 30’s, 40’s & 50’s:

What activities do you participate in which keep you intellectually challenged?

What do you do that keep you socially connected to family and non-family members (social health)?

Do you have someone in whom you can confide your sincerest and deepest feelings?

Do you love and do you feel loved?

Prior to retirement, what if any fears, did you have about growing older that turned out to be unfounded?

What gives you a sense of joy and peace? How often do you experience this?

What have you done since retirement that has given you a sense of meaningful purpose?

What is the best thing about retirement, aging, and becoming one of society’s elders?

What is the worst thing about retirement, aging, and becoming one of society’s elders?

What advice for healthy aging do you have for the next generation of elders?

Analyze your interview responses and discuss the positive behaviors and attributes this person has which contribute to healthy aging and longevity.

How have their physical activities changed over the years? What physical, psychological, societal influences precipitated any changes in activity? If they haven’t changed what would you theorize has contributed to this stabilization?

Analyze your interview responses and discuss the behaviors they exhibit which may be detrimental to healthy aging.

Analyze your interview responses and discuss the stage of retirement in which you place this person, providing evidence to support your placing them at this stage.

Finally, analyze your interview responses and determine the elder category for your interviewee (armored elder, mature elder, easy chair elder, angry elder, self-hating elder). Provide evidence to support your categorization.
