Use a door trim panel and garnish clip remover tool J-24595-C or equivalent to remove the door trim panel. Failure to use this tool may cause damage to the retaining clips, panel backing and door.
- Remove the door latch trim plate (coupe and sedan front doors).
- Remove the ashtray (sedan rear doors).
- Remove the seat belt retractor cover (coupe and sedan front doors). Use the door trim panel removing tool J-24595-C to release the clip retainers.
- Remove the door lock trim plate and the power window switch, if so equipped.
- Remove the window regulator handle by removing the inner retaining clip, A common special tool is available for this purpose which is designed to slide between the handle and trim panel and release the spring clip.
- Remove the remote mirror control, if so equipped.
- Remove the trim panel retaining screws.
- Remove the door trim panel using the door trim panel removing tool J-24595-C or equivalent.
- Disconnect all electrical and remote mirror controls.
To install:
- Install the wiring harnesses through the openings in the panel, if so equipped.
- Position the trim panel to the door and align the clips. Press the trim panel to the door until all the clips are fully engaged. Align all the holes before engaging the clips.
- Install the screws, remote mirror control and inside door handle bezel, if so equipped.
- Install the window regulator handle or power window switch.
- Install the door trim plate, seat belt retractor cover or ashtray.
- Check each operation for completion of repair.

Lock Module
2-DOOR COUPE
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the door trim panel as outlined in this section.
- Remove the energy absorber, if equipped.
- Loosen the water deflector to gain access to the lock module.
- Remove the screw and nut securing the cover assembly to the door.
- Remove the door handle cover assembly.
- Remove the lock cylinder-to-lock rod and outside handle-to-lock rod.
- Remove the screws securing the lock assembly to the door.
- Using a 3 / 16 in. (5mm) drill bit, drill out the rivets securing the lock module to the door.
- Disconnect the power lock electrical connector and remove the lock module.
To install:
- Install the lock module through the access hole in the door inner panel.
- Install the lock assembly screws at a 90 degree angle to prevent cross threading. Tighten the screws to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
- Install the power lock connector, if so equipped.
- Install the rivets securing the lock module-to-door. Use a 316 in. by 14 in. peel type rivets.
- Install the outside handle and lock cylinder lock rods. Check the locking operation before going any further.
- Install the door handle cover, retaining screws and nuts.
- Install the energy absorber, if equipped.
- Install the water deflector and door trim panel.
- Connect the negative battery cable and check all door operations for completion of repair.
4-DOOR SEDAN
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the door trim panel and water deflector.
- Remove the lock cylinder lock rod.
- Remove the retaining screws and rivets. Drill the rivets out with a 3 / 16 in. (5mm) drill bit.
- Disconnect the power lock connector, if so equipped.
- Remove the lock module and disconnect the handle lock rod.
To install:
- Position the lock module onto the door and connect the handle lock rod.
- Install the screws at a 90 degree angle to prevent cross threading.
- Connect the power lock connector, if so equipped.
- Install the lock module rivets. Use 3 / 16 in. by 1 / 4 in. peel type rivets.
- Check the door operations at this time.
- Install the water deflector and door trim panel.
- Connect the negative battery cable and recheck door operations.
Lock Cylinder
2-DOOR COUPE EXCEPT 1995-96 MONTE CARLO
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the door handle cover.
- Remove the lock cylinder-to-lock rod.
- Remove the anti-theft shield.
- Remove the lock cylinder from the door.
To install:
- Install the lock cylinder, anti-theft shield and shield retaining screw.
- Connect the cylinder lock rod and handle cover assembly.
- Check all door operations.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
1995-96 MONTE CARLO
- Remove the door trim panel.
- Remove the energy absorber pad.
- Remove the water deflector.
- Remove the lock cylinder lock rod from the cylinder.
- Remove the lock cylinder rod retainer.
- Remove the lock cylinder and gasket.
To install:
- Reposition the lock cylinder and gasket.
- Install the lock cylinder rod retainer.
- Install the lock cylinder lock rod to the cylinder.
- Install the water deflector and energy absorber pad.
- Install the door trim panel.
4-DOOR SEDAN EXCEPT 1995-96 LUMINA
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the door trim panel and water deflector. Refer to the appropriate section in this section.
- Using a small flat prybar, remove the lock cylinder retainer.
- Disconnect the cylinder lock rod and remove the lock cylinder and gasket.
To install:
- Install the cylinder and gasket.
- Connect the cylinder lock rod and install the retainer with a small flat prybar.
- Check all door operations at this time.
- Install the trim panel and water deflector.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
1995-96 LUMINA SEDAN
- Remove the door trim panel.
- Remove the water deflector.
- Remove the lock cylinder lock rod from the cylinder.
- Remove the lock cylinder rod retainer.
- Remove the lock cylinder and gasket.
To install:
- Reposition the lock cylinder and gasket.
- Install the lock cylinder rod retainer.
- Install the lock cylinder lock rod to the cylinder.
- Install the water deflector.
- Install the door trim panel.
Power Lock Actuator
The optional power door lock system has motor actuators in each door. The system is activated by a control switch on each front door. All locks are activated when any switch is pushed up or down. Each actuator has an internal circuit breaker which may require one to three minutes to reset after service.
The door lock actuator on 1995-96 Chevrolet models is part of the door lock and cannot be serviced separately.
2-DOOR COUPE
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the door trim panel and water deflector as outlined in this section.
- Remove the two actuator retaining screws located at opposite corners.
- Disconnect the electrical connector and linkage.
- Remove the actuator through the access hole.
To install:
- Install the actuator linkage, electrical connector and retaining screws.
- Check for proper operation by cycling the system.
- Install the water deflector and trim panel.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
4-DOOR SEDAN
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the door trim panel and water deflector as outlined in this section.
- Using a 3 / 16 in. (5mm) drill bit, drill out the actuator retaining rivets.
- Disconnect the electrical connector and linkage rod.
- Remove the actuator through the access hole.
To install:
- Install the actuator linkage, electrical connector and retaining rivets or screws.
- Check for proper operation by cycling the system.
- Install the water deflector and trim panel.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
