JOB DESCRIPTION SUPPORT / HORTICULTURAL WORKER

Location: Covering Denbighshire based Rhuallt

Title:Support / Horticultural Worker

Reports To:Manager

Hours: Up to 35 flexible working hours per week
Holidays: Initially 20 days plus paid public holidays

Salary: National minimum wage or Living wage age dependant

Must be a full vehicle driving licence holder.

Purpose of Job

You will have responsibility for supporting people who have learning disabilities in day-to-day workings of a smallholding. You will therefore be required to have or develop a range of horticultural skills. The post requires a multi-skilled and flexible approach to the tasks required of you. Must be a full licence holder and be able to drive small commercial vehicles.

You will be part of an established team of support workers developing our smallholding Derwen Cornel. We are growing food within poly tunnels and directly from the field. We also keep chickens and alpacas. We may also keep some additional livestock at a later date and you could be required to assist with this aspect of the job as well.

Main Activities

An active interest or desire to develop horticultural skills and knowledge to include fruit, vegetable production. Working within a team to produce high quality crops. Help with production methods, sales of goods and day to day involvement in the business

Physically fit enough to undertake a wide range of horticultural activities. (Activities are likely to include: digging, lifting, carrying, kneeling, bending and repetitive movements.)

Working with vulnerable people (people with learning disabilities / physical disabilities

Commitment to horticulture and environmental awareness as therapeutic activity

High levels of discretion, empathy and sensitivity

Commitment to working as part of a team

Adoption of high standards of health and safety within the workplace

Willingness to develop and maintain positive working relationships with external agencies

Willingness to drive works vehicles in order to deliver / collect materials and transport people and produce.

Willingness to undertake some weekend rota work for which time off in lieu will be given

Willingness to undertake training as necessary / appropriate

Willingness to work in accordance with our policies and procedures

Willingness to work within and promote the ethos and principles that underpin the activities and services of Co-options.

Ensure people’s active participation in activities on a day to day basis and supporting people with personal care needs.

Vocational profiles of individuals keeping personal files updated

Attend team meetings and meetings concerning individuals supported

Liase with family/carers/agencies when necessary

Ensure people’s well being in terms of physical safety and mental well-being at all times, in accordance with a Health & Safety policy across all placements, with business managers.

Covering colleagues work during illness or leave periods

Keep accurate paperwork in relation to all matters

Other relevant duties as directed
