Easy-to-fit flexible protective caps protect external threads and prevent ingress of contaminants
Lohne, April 2010. – One of the latest additions to the KAPSTO® standard range of plastic caps and plugs from Pöppelmann GmbH & Co.KG, Kunststoffwerk-Werkzeugbau, Lohne/Germany, are the particularly easy-to-fit-and-remove GPN 205 Protective Caps. Designed specially for the protection of components, bolts, stud bolts and male-threaded pipe ends while in transit and storage, they not only prevent damage to the thread but also an ingress of dirt and other contaminants into the interiors of hollow parts and components featuring externally threaded connections. The protective caps, which are optimized for above-standard cleanness requirements, are injection-moulded in yellow-pigmented, plasticizer-free EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer). They are available as standard for seven different fine-pitch and coarse-pitch metric thread sizes from M10 to M22 and for seven different pipe thread sizes from ¼” to 1”. Special protective caps may be supplied on request for non-standard threaded lengths or for elevated heat resistance.
The interior surfaces of the protective caps are provided with raised, axially running gripping surfaces. When used for the transport and storage of delicate parts, only these surfaces come into contact with the outer contours of the threads to be protected. They also permit easy, rapid and low-friction fitment of the sleeves and, later, their equally effortless removal without causing any physical damage to the threads. Nonetheless, these gripping surfaces are moulded with such high precision that they ensure the necessary degree of self-retention and cannot become detached inadvertently.
Continually developed and manufactured by Pöppelmann in its own production facilities, the standard KAPSTO® range comprises, besides the GPN 205 Protective Caps, over 3,000 different types and/or sizes of protective plastic caps and plugs, all of which are immediately available ex stock. Special versions, e.g. plugs combining sealing and assembling functions, can be designed and developed by Pöppelmann's own team of application engineers exactly in accordance with customer requirements.
