Brief Church Mission Statement:
To be the church that displays the love of Christ and connects with people of all walks of life through our worship, discipleship, outreach, and community.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
We are looking for a full-time pastor. We offer a welcoming place to worship God and be part of a church family. We have Bible focused preaching with a connection to everyday life. The feeling is that anyone can enter and God will be there no matter what. Our congregation is filled with compassionate, caring people who share the love of Jesus through Sunday School for all ages, Vacation Bible School, youth group and school release time classes. In the past two years, our youth have participated in a week long out-of-state mission project. We provide pastoral care and take communion to those who are unable to attend worship services.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
First Presbyterian is called to make all feel welcome. We offer a Sunday School program for all ages, youth group, school release time classes. Website viewing is available for those unable to attend church services. Partnering with the local schools, we provide winter clothing items for needy children, and support the local food shelf. We offer our facility for community events such as ecumenical services and community concerts. Visits, pastoral care, and communion are offered to those in nursing homes or who are otherwise unable to attend church. We welcome new people to the community with a gift bag and invitation to our fellowship. Through participating in activities such as the community festivals and parades, Red Cross Bloodmobile, and serving an annual Soup/Dessert dinner, we do our part to keep our community strong.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
We see the role of the pastor as guiding the congregation, teaching the Lord’s ways through preaching, offering pastoral care and teaching. The pastor would be someone who challenges the church to grow spiritually and in faith. Something important to the church is that the pastor has both the time and energy to visit our elderly, sick, and shut-in members while at the same time harbors a passion for engaging and involving the youth, helping to grow the church for the next generation. We value a quality speaker who follows Biblical values and lessons in their teaching and who engages members with deep and relatable sermons on Sunday mornings.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
The person filling this position must believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and apply the scripture to everyday life. The individual must have strong communication skills, deliver thought-provoking sermons, cultivate youth ministry and meet the needs of the elderly and shut-ins. We would encourage the pastor to be involved in the community. We would like this individual to be open to exploring contemporary services and music. We strive to find someone who is warm, personable, and caring. A good listener is valuable as is someone who can relate well to all age groups. A pastor with passion, a sense of humor, and zeal would be a great fit.
What specific tasks, assignments, and program areas will this person have responsibility?
• Prepare and lead worship,
• Administer the Sacraments,
• Officiate at funerals and weddings,
• Teach confirmation classes,
• Provide a vision for our youth and work with the youth leaders,
• Visit the sick/home bound as needed,
• Moderate session meetings and confer with committees as needed.
