Title:Café Supervisor

Grade/Salary: In line with minimum wage

Responsible to: Senior Manager Patient Support Services

Accountable to:CEO/Director of Nursing

Location:Blackett Avenue In Patient Hospice

Hours of Working:18 Hours per week, including weekends and bank holidays when required

Job Summary: To run the cafe successfully, create a welcoming, clean and calm environment while achievingmaximum possible profit and generate income towards the work of St David’s Hospice Care.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Meet any agreed sales and profit targets
  • Manage the pricing, merchandising, date rotation and display of stock
  • In consultation with the cook and senior manager plan orders and stock levels.
  • Maintain a high standard of display
  • Ensure that all areas of the cafe and preparation areas are clean and tidy at all times
  • Be proactive in generating custom, engage with staff teams re. special offers and menu
  • Ensure that all organisational procedures are followed, e.g. security, cash handling, reporting and food hygieneand agreed environmental health policy documents
  • Control all cafe expenses to levels agreed with the seniormanager
  • Recruit voluntary staff to meet the needs of the cafeand compile rotas
  • Provide training for any paid and voluntary staff and any work placements in all aspects of food safety, customer care, equal opportunities and health and safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure that the cafe opens to agreed hours and plan cover for 7 days per week working
  • Ensure that the cafe is covered for periods of sickness and annual leave
  • Ensure all relevant administration is completed
  • Ensure an exceptionally high level of customer care is maintained
  • Ensure the cafe meets environmental health and safety regulations to merit a level 5 Food Hygiene Rating
  • Undertake any required training courses
  • Assist in the positive promotion of the work of St. David’s Hospice Care, working with community fundraisers to exploit opportunities and maximise awareness of the charity
  • Comply with organisational health and safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for staff, volunteers and customers.
  • Ensure that any new employees, volunteers or trainees are given an initial induction and explanation of fire and emergency evacuation procedures and have passed a food hygiene course.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required to ensure the smooth operation of thecafe

All job descriptions are subject to review. Job holders are expected to be flexible and be prepared to carry out any similar or related duties which do not fall within the work outlined. Any review will be undertaken by the line manager, in consultation with the post holder.

Other Information

Unsociable Hours:There may be an occasional need for unsociable hours, e.g. attendance at fund-raising events meetings and conferences. Time in lieu will be given in respect of this.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential / Desirable
Education / •Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • GCSE or equivalent in English Language and Maths
  • Food Hygiene level 2

Experience / •Knowledge and experience of working in a café environment
