Call for Applications: Policy Research Methodology and Policy Analysis Training

The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is now accepting applications for the Policy Research Methodology and Policy Analysis Training to hold from 2-6 December 2013 at the WACSI Training Centre in Accra, Ghana. The course has been taught since 2008 by West African policy experts with in-depth knowledge of the region and rich practical experience of work in this area.

About the Policy Research Methodology and Policy Analysis Training

This course is geared towards enhancing the capacities of civil society actors to do credible policy research and critical analysis and communicate their findings effectively to relevant development stakeholders.

Specific objectives include:

§  Improved ability to define policy research problems;

§  Better understanding of context-appropriate policy research design and methodologies (qualitative and quantitative);

§  Practice-based knowledge of key techniques to compile and communicate comprehensive research reports.

Methodology
Training will employ a wide range of activity models including lectures, group work, case studies, classroom discussions and practical exercises. Participants are encouraged to prepare to share their knowledge and experiences, present case studies, and take active part in course discussions, group work and practical exercises. Participants will be actively involved in pre-course training needs assessments, course attendance and post-training follow-up and monitoring. The language of instruction is English.

Who should attend?

§  Early to mid-career programme staff, especially researchers, with past experience of doing policy research, and policy analysis and communication in West Africa/Africa.

How much will it cost?

Selected participants are requested to pay the subsidised fee of Six Hundred Ghana Cedis (600.00 GHS) only by 6 November 2013 to confirm their attendance. Please note that this sum does not include the associated bank charges.

Other expenses

In addition to the training fee, participants are responsible for hotel lodging expenses (approximately US$75/night plus tax) and all other necessary travel expenses. Lunch will be provided during the training. All other meals are the participants’ responsibility.
