National Nutrition week (NNW) is an annual nutrition event of great importance and is observed in the country from 1st to 7th September every year since 1982. National Nutrition week 2012 was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Women & Child Development Smt. Krishna Tirath on 1st September 2012 at Rajeev Gandhi Stadium, Bawana, Delhi. NNW 2012 is being celebrated throughout the country with the theme “NutritionAwareness: Key to a Healthy Nation”. On the occasion of National Nutrition Week 2012, four (4) Nutrition Exhibitions were organised by Food & Nutrition Board, Ministry of Women & Child Development in collaboration with NIPCCD and Directorate of ICDS, Govt. of NCT of Delhi at four different places of NCT of Delhi. Nutrition Exhibition organised at Rajeev Gandhi Stadium, Bawana, Delhi was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Women & Child Development Smt. Krishna Tirath on 1.9.2012, other three Nutrition Exhibitions were organised at SanatanDharamshala, Narela on 3.9.2012, Community Centre, MangolPuri on 5.9.2012 and Community Centre, Badli on 7.9.2012.

IstNutrition Exhibition organised at Rajeev Gandhi Stadium, Bawana, Delhi on 1.9.2012

Food and Nutrition Board, Ministry of W.C.D organised very informative, attractive and impressive Nutrition Exhibition at Rajeev Gandhi Stadium, Bawana, Delhi on 1.9.2012. The exhibition was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Women & Child Development Smt. Krishna Tirath. In her inaugural speech she called upon the people of Delhi in particular to spread the message of good nutrition and health so that people at large may get rid of malnutrition. She elaborated about various schemes and programmes implementedby the Ministry of Women and Child Development through various State Governments. She called upon the people to take advantage of these programmes and stay “Healthy and Productive”. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Shree Ranjan, Joint Secretary of Women and Child Development detailed about the nutrition exhibitions held at four different places of NCT of Delhi. He stressed upon the need of nutrition awareness among people to prevent malnutrition. He urged all stake holders and concerned departments to put integrated approach so that malnutrition could be tackled effectively.

Earlier Dr. Dinesh Paul,Director,NIPCCD,New,Delhi welcomed Hon’ble Minister of Women & Child Development Smt. Krishna Tirath and other dignitaries. Inaugural session started with Ganesh Vandanapresented by artists of Song and Drama Division, Ministry of I & B.Vote of thanks was proposed by ShriN.N.Tiwari,Deputy

Technical Adviser(NR),Food and Nutrition Board.

After inaugural session, the exhibition was opened to public. Nutrition quiz was organised by Food and Nutrition Board to see the awareness of adolescent girls, women, Anganwadi workers, helpers about the nutrition. The exhibition was opened from 9.30 AM to 5.00 PM. During the whole day, programmes of dance, songs, skits dance, poems by National Mission for Women Empowerment and ICDS,SHGs,beneficiaries of AnganwadiCenters were presented

giving health and nutrition messages. Folk dance and folk songs on the nutrition and health topics were shown by the artists of Song and Drama Division.

A video show was organised by Food and Nutrition Board showing informative and knowledgeable messages on health and nutrition.

CDPOs, Supervisors of ICDS Projects also performed various activities like songs, rally, mock show. About 1600 people were benefited from the nutrition exhibition.

Throughout the day various activities were done for local gathering by Food and Nutrition Board, NIPCCD, RastriyaMahilaKosh, Directorate of ICDS, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, National Mission for Empowerment of Women, Non-profitable Organisations attached to ICDS, Dept. of Health Services. General health Check-up was done by Medical Practitioner to identify anaemic patient. BP,BloodSugar,haemoglobin were checked.

BMI of Adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women, children above 5 years age was checked up to know the level of malnutrition among them. Growth monitoring of children was done by Food and Nutrition Board and NIPCCD to know malnutrition among them. Their parents were advised to take care of their nutrition needs. Low cost nutritious foods products were prepared and distributed on the occasion by Food and Nutrition Board, ICDS Project, NIPCCD, National Mission for Empowerment of Women, NGO Shatri Shakti to make local people aware of the recipes and their importance.

Nutritional counselling and guidance were given to the gathering individuallyabout their diet, balance diet, nutritional needs and precaution to be taken during cooking, handling and storage of food products at domestic level. They were also advised to avoid junk food and fast food for their better health.

All the participants were given a set of literatures, pamphlets, booklets by Food and Nutrition Board for their reference and knowledge.

2nd Nutrition exhibition organised at SanatanDharamshala, Narela, Delhi on 3.9.2012.

2ndNutrition Exhibition was organised by Food and Nutrition Board, Ministry of Women and Child Development at SanatanDharamshala, Narela on 3.9.2012. Exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Dinesh Paul, Director, NIPCCD, New Delhi. ShriH.S.Nanda, Deputy Secretary,Ministry of Women and Child Development welcomed guests and participants and expressed his gratitude to Hon’bleMinister of Women and Child Development for her guidance and initiative to put up exhibition at Narela for the benefit of local people and ICDS functionaries.Details of various programmes and activities during whole day exhibition was given by ShriN.N.Tiwari, Deputy Technical Adviser, Northern Region. Vote of thanks was given by ShriS.K.Srivastava, Additional Director, NIPCCD, New Delhi. Earlier, welcome song was presented by artists of Song and Drama Division, M/o I & B. Colourful dance programme was presented by artists of National Mission for empowerment of Women, New Delhi and Anganwadi workers, ICDS Project,Narela.

After inaugural session Nutrition Exhibition was opened for general public.Various aspects of nutrition and health were shown by Food & Nutrition Board, NIPCCD, RastriyaMahilaKosh, National Mission for Empowerment of Women, ICDS Project, Directorate of ICDS, Govt. of NCT through posters, banners, charts, graphs, diagrams video show, live demonstration, distribution, skits and dance show. Artists of Song and Drama Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi presented various folk dances, folk songs depicting various aspects of nutrition and health.

A video show disseminating various aspects of nutrition, health was organised for whole day by Food and Nutrition Board for the benefit of people of Narela.

Anganwadis workers, helpers, supervisors ofICDS also presented songs, poems, mockery, rally by children.About 1400 people of Narela were benefited from the Nutrition Exhibition.

BMI check of Adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating, children above 5 year was determined by Food and Nutrition Board officials and they were given a record of their BMI to make them aware about their nutrition status.

Growth monitoring of children was done by Food and nutrition Board and NIPCCD to know their malnutrition status and their parents were advised to take care of their nutritional needs.

Low cost nutritious food products, snacks, chats, tiffin’s items, Ready to Eat (RTE), Ready to serve (RTS) products were prepared and distributed by Food and nutrition Board and NIPCCD and NPO, Self-Help groups (SHGs), ICDS Project ,National Mission for Empowerment of Women.
