BASTROP COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW RULES

SECTION 1

1-A.Liability Rule- The Bastrop County 4-H program, the Elgin Livestock Show Association and I.G. Janca Show Barn, Bastrop, Elgin and Smithville FFA Chapters will in no case be responsible for any loss, injury or damage that may occur during the show.

1-B.Eligibility- Exhibitors must be between the ages of nine years or third grade and nineteen years old. Exhibitors must be 4-H or FFA members and currently enrolled in or eligible to be enrolled in school in Bastrop County or reside in Bastrop County. Exhibitors qualifying under Section 2A will be eligible to show.

1-C.Eligibility- Exhibitors must pass all classes during the previous grading period prior to participation in the Livestock Show in accordance with current Texas legislative rulings. If the exhibitor is ineligible, the animal is ineligible to be shown. A substitute showman may not exhibit animals for an owner/exhibitor participating in other events or activities (UIL competitions, school sports, etc.) or just being absent from the competition. If the exhibitor is scholastically ineligible to participate, as determined by the respective School District, the exhibitor and their entries are ineligible for competition. Upon board approval of extenuating circumstances, an exhibitor may get an eligible exhibitor to show his/her animal.

1-D.NEW for 2013 This year you must have taken and passed the Quality Counts Test to Show at the

Bastrop County Junior Livestock Show.

1-D.Awards- Grand Champion and Reserve Champion awards will be given in each division. Exhibitors will receive a ribbon for first through fourth places. Lower placings will receive participation ribbons. The Showmanship classes will be divided into two divisions: Junior (13 years of age or younger as of show date) and Senior (14 years of age and older as of show date). A minimum of 5 exhibitors will constitute a Showmanship class. Buckles will be awarded on show date upon selection of Showmanship winners.

1-E.Divisions- A minimum of five entries will constitute a division.

1-F.Number of Entries- Exhibitors may exhibit two animals per weight class, except breeding rabbits. In the event that both animals fall into the same class, the owner is responsible for finding another eligible youth exhibitor to show his/her animal upon the approval of the superintendent.

1-G.Animal Ownership Requirements- All exhibitors must have owned and cared for their animals by December 1, 2011. Exceptions: Swine under 100 pounds.

1-H.Steers, Heifers, & Swine- No adhesives, oil, or foreign material will be allowed. Only water may be used.

1-I.Substitutions-Only substitutions can be made within the same sex and same species after the entry deadline.

1-J.No animals will be accepted after weigh-in/check-in on show day.

1-K.Division Entry Fees-

Market Lambs- $15.00Market Steers- $20.00Meat Rabbits- $5.00

Goats- $15.00Market Barrows- $15.00Beef Heifers- $20.00

Breeding Gilts- $15.00

Make checks payable to Elgin Livestock Show. Turn entries into an Ag Science Teacher or an Extension Agent. Entry deadline for all species is December 1, 2011. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED!

1-L.Health Certificates- All livestock are exempt.

1-M.Concession Stand- The concession stand will open and be operated by Elgin FFA Livestock Show Association. Exhibitors may bring items to be sold in the concession stand. Money raised will be used to pay for show expenses.

1-N.The Show Committee will handle any situation that arises which is not covered by these rules. The decision of the Show Committee (Livestock Superintendents) will be final. All protests must be in writing and accompanied by a $50.00 deposit, which will be returned if the protest is upheld. Protests must be submitted within two hours of infraction.

SECTION 2

(Section 2 Rules Apply To Premium Money Exhibitors Only)

2-A.To be eligible to receive premium money exhibitors must be enrolled or eligible to be enrolled in Elgin I.S.D., Coupland I.S.D., orMcDade I.S.D. and be an active member of Elgin FFA; or must have been enrolled in a Bastrop County 4H club no later than Oct 31st of current year and have attended at least 2 meetings prior to the livestock show.

2-B.Those exhibitors who participate in another local or county premium show or sale are ineligible to receive premium money from the Elgin Show.

2-C.Validation- If any animal is not state validated or a registered breeding animal, then they must be validated for the show. Note: A validation will be held for these animals on Monday, December 3, 2012 @ the IG JancaShowbarn from 4:30pm-5:00pm. All entries excluding rabbits must be validated or registered in the exhibitor’s name. Rabbit exhibitors should be prepared to show pedigrees if requested by rabbit show superintendent(s).

2-D.To be eligible to receive full premium money exhibitors and/or parents must obtain the required work points according to the work point rules.

2-E.Those exhibitors found to be in violation of this Section will be ineligible from further competition at future Bastrop County Junior Livestock Show, and will forfeit any premium money from the Bastrop County Junior Livestock Show.

SHOW ORDER (Jan. 12, 2013)

NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER DECEMBER 3, 2013!

1.Meat Goats

Weigh-in begins at 6:30 am and ends at 7:30 am. Judging begins at 8:30am, showmanship immediately follows judging, seniors followed by juniors. No animals will be accepted after weigh-in on show day.

2.Market Lambs

Weigh-in begins at 7:30 am and ends at 8:00 am. Judging immediately follows meat goat showmanship. Lamb showmanship begins immediately after judging, seniors followed by juniors. No animals will be accepted after weigh-in on show day.

3.Market Steers

Weigh-in is between 7:30 and 8:00 am. Judging immediately follows Lamb showmanship. No animals will be accepted after weigh-in on show day.

4.Heifers

Check-in by 8:00am. Judging follows the market steer show. No animals will be accepted after check-in on show day.

5.Cattle Showmanship

Showmanship will include both steers and heifers, and will follow the heifer show. Seniors followed by juniors.

  1. Market Barrows

Weigh-in starts at 7:30am. All barrows must be weighed in by 8:30am. No animals will be accepted after weigh-in deadline on show day. Judging begins after cattle showmanship.

  1. Breeding Gilts

Check-in starts at 7:30am. All gilts must be checked in by 8:30am. No animals will be accepted after check-in deadline on show day. Judging begins after the market barrowshow.

  1. Swine Showmanship-Market Barrows & Breeding Gilts. Showmanship begins after breeding swine judging, seniors are followed by juniors.
